Elders killed in arson attack
Two elderly men were Sunday hacked to death by a group of raiders who later set eight houses on fire in Kuresoi, Molo District. The incident occurred at Tegea Farm where most residents have fled their homes and sought refugee at a nearby trading centre following the post election violence. Molo police boss Achesa Litabalia said the attack occurred Sunday morning. He said the victims aged 60 and 71 had been living together in one of the deserted homes. No arrests have been made in connection with the attack.
Last week, another group of raiders struck the neighbouring Ndimu area and killed a man who was harvesting potatoes before setting 22 houses on fire.
And councillor-elect for Mkulima Ward Philip Kamau accused the Government of neglecting clash victims in the area.
“The Government appears to be giving much attention to clash victims camping in major town centres while those in rural areas continue to suffer,” he said.
The civic leader urged the Government to deploy additional police officers, adding that over 600 families were camping at Tegea trading centre by Saturday.
“Despite the large number of displaced people at the centre only three policemen are deployed to protect them,” he said.
He said three officers could not provide adequate security in case of an attack by a large group of armed raiders.
Separately, the Government has been asked to bring to book the perpetrators of the post-poll violence.
Kabete MP, Lewis Nguyai said it was clear there was some element of incitement areas where clashes occurred.
“The Government should not wait for the mediation talks to be concluded to bring inciters to book,” said Mr Nguyai.
Speaking to families camping in Naivasha on Saturday, Mr Nguyai asked them not to be vengeful, but wait for the law to take its course.
Mr Nguyai who was accompanied by area MP John Mututho also asked the Government to investigate claims that there were armed militia in the country.
Mr Mututho asked people to shun tribal animosity for the sake of development.
