Peace and Security Protocol
(PANA) - The Mauritanian government, during its weekly me eting on Wednesday, examined and adopted a bill authorising the ratification of t he protocol on the establishment of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the A frican Union (AU), official source told PANA Thursday.
The project, which is a regional legal instrument, aimed at maintaining peace an d preventing conflicts, were adopted 9 July 2002 in Durban, South Africa.
Inaugurated 25 May 2004, the PSC of the African Union counts 15 non-permanent me mbers elected without right of veto.
The institution also discussed the deployment of the UN peace-keeping force in B urundi, on violence, which hit Abidjan late last March and the situation in Soma l ia.
