Central African States Summit on Chad
(PANA) - The extra-ordinary summit of the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC) on the crisis in Chad opened here Monday.
It brought together the DRC President, Joseph Kabila, the initiator of the meeti ng and his counterparts from Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso; Chad, Idriss Deby Itno ; Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza; Equatorial Guinea, Theodoro Obieng Nguema; the Cent r al African Republic, François Bozize and Sao Tomé and Principe, Miguel Trovoada.
The heads of state of Cameroon, Angola and Gabon were absent, but have sent thei r representatives.
The summit is aimed at finding peaceful solutions to the situation in Chad and t o help in the country’s national reconciliation.
Born 13 October 1983, the merger between the Central African Customs and Economi c Union (UDEAC) and the Economic Community of Great Lakes Countries(CEPGL), CEEA C comprises Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, DRC, Gabon, Equatori a l Guinea, the Republic of Congo, Chad, Angola and Sao Tomé and Principe.
At its creation, CEEAC set for itself, the goal of promoting political dialogue among member countries, to create a customs union and establish joint sectoral p o licies.
CEEAC comprises four main organs: the conference of heads of state and governmen t, the council of ministers, the general secretariat and the Community Court of J ustice.
