AU Hails Comoros Progress
(PANA) - The head of the African Union (AU) Conflict Management Division, Mr. El Ghassim Wane, Sunday in Moroni hailed the political situation in the Comoros, after the overthrow of the self-proclaimed president of the autonomous island of Anjouan, Col. Bacar.
"We are happy about the restoration of order in Anjouan and the electoral process under way in the island," he told PANA.
Mr. Wane is part of an international mission, which has been in Moroni since 14 May, for the assessment of the political situation in the Comoros.
He said the team had met all the parties in the Comoros’ political process, in an effort to determine the areas where the international community could assist the country.
The international mission is made up of representatives of the AU, the League of Arab States, the International Francophonie Organisation (OIF), the Indian Ocean and the United Nations.
