AU Chairman Meets Kenyan Envoy
(PANA)- A Kenyan envoy, Mr Moses Wetangula, arrived in Accra on Saturday formeeting with African Union (AU) chairman, Ghana’s President John Agyekum Kufuor on the bloody post-election violence in the East African country that has claimed hundreds of lives, destroyed property and displaced tens of thousands of people.
He will also deliver a special message from Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki to President Kufuor, according to Ghana foreign ministry officials.
Mr Wetangula is accompanied by Mr Franklin Esipila, Kenyan ambassador to Ethiopia and Ms Severin Luyali of the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The arrival of the Kenyan delegation comes against the background of a flurry of diplomatic activities to end the bloodshed that started last Sunday after incumbent President Kibaki was named victor over opposition leader Raila Odinga in a closely fought presidential election.
Respected South African cleric Archbishop Desmond Tutu and a top US envoy on Africa, Jendayi Frazer are in Nairobi to negotiate a deal that would resolve the differences and restore peace to Kenya.
A planned visit to Kenya by an AU delegation to have been led by Kufuor last Wednesday was put on ice as the Kenyan authorities said they were not aware of the trip.
