(PANA)--The current chairman of the African Union (AU), Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, on Wednesday held talks in Tripoli with his Somali counterpart, Abdallah Youssef Ahmed, on the latest developments in the situation in Somalia and bilateral relations between their countries.

The ambassador of Somalia in Libya, Abdelhakim Yacine, told the press that during the meeting President Youssef informed President Kikwete that he asked Libyan leader, Mouamar Kadhafi, to urge the president of Djibouti, Omar Guellah, to transfer the reconciliation talks between the government of Somali factions from Djibouti to Libya. The Somali president also informed his Tanzanian counterpart that he urged the Libyan leader to personally take care of the reconciliation case in Somalia.

The Somali diplomat said Tanzanian and Somali presidents commended the role of Kadhafi in the establishment of peace and stability in Somali in his capacity as the peace mediator within the Community of Sahelo-Saharan States (CEN-SAD). The Somali president early this week met the Libyan leader whom he informed of the latest developments in his country.

President Kikwete left Tripoli on Wednesday afternoon at the end of a two-day visit during which he held talks with Kadhafi over issues of security and stability on the African continent and the tensions existing in some regions and the need to settle them through the AU.
