AU Condemns Terror Attack in Algeria
(PANA)--African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Jean Ping has reiterated Africa’s commitment to addressing the scourge of terrorism following the attack Tuesday that killed at least 43 people at a police college in Algeria.
According to Algeria’s interior ministry, another 38 persons were injured in the bombing targeted at a paramilitary police training school at Issers, near Boumerdes, about 60km east of the capital Algiers.
‘The attack highlights once again the gravity of the threat posed by terrorism to Africa’, said Ping in a condolence message to the people and government of Algeria. The Chairperson unreservedly condemned the attack as well as all forms of terrorist actions, expressing his personal solidarity and that of the African people with the people of Algeria.
Reports based on witness accounts said that an attacker drove a car full of explosives into the police college’s entrance, hitting candidates who waiting for recruitment.
