AU Summit must Act to Combat Food Crisis

Oxfam (Press Release)--This week’s African Union Summit must produce urgent and radical steps to reform agricultural policy on the continent, with food crises and hunger in Africa set to increase in the face of the global economic and climate change crises, international agency Oxfam said at the launch of a new report today. More and wiser investment in small-scale agriculture is needed, the agency said.

Include Africa

This spring, leaders from 20 of the world’s largest economies will come together for the G20 summit in the United Kingdom. They’ll be discussing the global financial system, and working on setting a course for the world to get out of the financial crisis. It is crucial that a representative from the African Union be present at those meeting to represent many of the world’s poorest nations, and give voice to their concerns.
