PAP Election Observer Mission to Kenya

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has released a statement of its observer mission to Kenya’s general election, which states: "it is the Mission’s considered view that the disputed election fell short of matching the democratic election process and the expression and the will of the people of Kenya."

AU Audit Report

At the AU Summit in July, 2007 it was argued that while “all member states accept the United States of Africa as a common and a desirable goal”, the Executive Council recommended an audit review of the state of the Union to identify the areas where significant improvement has to be made to accelerate the African integration process. The High-Level panel to review the African Union presented its final report, AUDIT_REPORT.doc, for discussion and adoption at last week’s Executive Council meeting in Addis Ababa. However, a decision was once again postponed as it was agreed that African Foreign Ministers should hold an extraordinary meeting in three months for decision on implementation of the recommendations of the panel, thus further delaying final decision until at least the next AU Summit in July 2008.

Executive Council and Assembly Agendas

The draft agendas are now available for both the 12th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, to be held between 27-29 January 2008 (DRAFT_AGENDA_EX.CL.pdf) and the 10th Ordinary Session of the Assembly, to be held between 31 January –2 February 2008 (DRAFT_AGENDA__Assembly.pdf) in Addis Ababa.
