Nouakchott Rejects AU Ultimatum

(PANA)--The new Mauritanian leaders have rejected the African Union (AU) ultimatum to release overthrown President, Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, and restore constitutional order in the country by 6 October.

AU Condemns Somali Rebel Attacks

(Andrew Cawthorne)--The African Union (AU) condemned Somali rebel assaults on its peacekeepers as ‘calculated provocation’ and vowed to fight any future attacks. Increasingly brazen Islamist insurgents have this month turned their fire on the AU peacekeepers, who number about 2,600 Ugandans and Burundians, with ambushes on bases and patrols.
