ZINASU Position on the June 27 Event(s)

(Press Release)--The students of Zimbabwe, fully cognizant and in respect of democratic norms and values make it clear that the events of 27 June 2008 in which Mr Robert Mugabe the ZANU PF candidate competed against himself cannot and must not be described as an election by anyone wishing the people of Zimbabwe well.

The ingredients of an election during the run-up to June 27 were absent, what rather characterised the run-up to the “June 27 thing” were ingredients of a war. We therefore make it categorically an unequivocally clear that the outcome of the thing, its pronounced victor and any Government formed basing on the outcome of it will be illegitimate and should be defied, resisted and confronted. We urge the people of Zimbabwe to:
• Unite and confront this illegitimate regime.
• Urge all progressive and truly patriotic elected councillors, members of the house of assembly and members of senate to boycott any sitting as doing so will be legitimising the regime.
• Boycott doing any business with this regime, which includes boycotting paying of rates to local authorities, school fees, stop sending any foreign currency to any bank etc. We remind the nation that any citizen of Zimbabwe who does any transaction with this regime will be giving them revenue they so much need to finance its illegal and undemocratic stay in power. Therefore anyone who funds directly or indirectly, consciously or unconsciously is an enemy of the people.
• Recognise the results of March 29 as a true reflection the peoples will, and any process thereafter was unconstitutional and lacks moral legitimacy as any run off should have been held within 21 days after the first election.
• Call the International criminal court of justice to bring before its court all perpetrators of human rights abuses, crimes against humanity, assassinations, torture among other gross abuses for trial.
• To complement the efforts of the Zimbabwean people urge our fellow brothers and sisters from the region and the continent at large to engage in real practical solidarity actions to amplify the voices of the comrades at home.

Alluta continua, Victoria Acerta!!!
