Move against Illicit Arms
(APA)--Great Lakes region member states have introduced ‘marking machines’ as a way of beefing up campaigns to address the source of increasing number of illicit small fire arms and light weapons in the region.
This was revealed by the executive secretary of the regional center on small arms and light weapons, Dr Francis Sang, while opening a five day workshop on tackling small arms and light weapons in the great lakes region and East Africa here on Monday .
He said twelve marking machines have been introduced to all the member states in the great lakes region through the process of making all fire arms in state position before the end of the year.
Dr Francis Sang says unless a joint effort in the region is launched, small arms which lead to 80% of death of civilians, will continue to pose the deadly treat.
