PAP Committee Sittings Begin

(Press Release)—The Permanent Committees of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) are beginning a new round of Sittings today, August 25 until August 29, 2008 at the PAP Seat in Midrand, South Africa. The Committees are going to tackle a number of issues and are expected to set the tone of the forthcoming Tenth Ordinary Session, which is expected to be convened during October 27 – November 07, 2008.

PAP has ten Permanent Committees. They are the Committees on: Rural Economy, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment; Rules, Privileges and Discipline; Co-operation, International Relations and Conflict Resolutions; Trade, Customs and Immigration Matters; Transport, Industry, Communications, Energy, Science and Technology; Health, Labour and Social Affairs; Monetary and Financial Affairs; Justice and Human Rights; Gender, Family, Youth and People Living with Disability; and Education, Culture, Tourism and Human Resources.

PAP was established in Mach 2004 according to Article 17 of The Constitutive Act of the African Union, as one of the nine organs provided for in the Treaty Establishing the African Economic Community signed in Abuja, Nigeria, in 1991. The seat of PAP is in Midrand, Republic of South Africa.
