Pan-African Parliament Debates Zimbabwe
The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) debate on Zimbabwe began at 10 am on Friday morning. The motion PAP_Zim_Motion.pdf was moved by Inkatha Freedom Party Member of Parliament (MP) Suzanne Vos (South Africa) and was seconded by Boyce Sebetela (Botswana). Despite a divisive debate and a spirited attempt by Zimbabwean ZANU PF MPs to allege external forces as the cause for the Zimbabwe crisis, the Parliament voted (by show of hands) 149 for the motion, 20 against and 3 abstentions. Effectively it means that a PAP delegation will be sent to Zimbabwe on a fact finding mission and report back to the plenary.
