Uganda to Host Women’s Justice Meeting
Patrick Jaramogi (New Vision)--Uganda is hosting the first Justice for Women’s forum in Kampala. The three-day historic event that starts today will attract over 500 women from Sudan, the DR Congo, the Central African Republic and Uganda.
Women’s Initiatives for Gender and Justice executive director Brigid Inder said: ‘The meeting will be used to address issues that affect thousands of women facing war in northern Uganda, Sudan and the Central African Republic.’
Inder, speaking to journalists at Hotel Africana yesterday, said: ‘We want to promote the rights of women victims and survivors of armed conflicts.’ She said rape, forced pregnancy and gender-based sexual violence were ignored when investigating crimes against humanity.
Inder said the conference would also address the causes of conflicts, in the Great Lakes region and possible solutions.
