Citizens’ Continental Conference
Invitation for the fourth “Citizens’ Continental Conference on the African Union Summit”- January 16-17th, 2009 – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In the framework of the upcoming African Union Summit in Ethiopia, the Centre for Citizens’ Participation in the African Union (CCP-AU), supported by its many partners will be holding a continental conference on January 16th and 17th 2009 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The main objective of this continental conference is to use this gathering of CSOs/NGOs to deliberate on the topics that will be agenda issues for the 12th Ordinary Summit regarding Peace and Security issues in Africa, Social Development issues and the financial and food crisis that is affecting our continent. In addition to this, we would like to use this gathering to assess the value of our work thus far, update each other on key issues and policies that are bound to be relevant for the coming one year, consult on our sustainable engagement strategy and adopt common positions on select issues that we believe the African CSO voice is missing.
At the completion of the 4th Citizens’ Continental Conference, we will have produced a policy position paper that will then be disseminated among our networks, and used by members in Addis Ababa and partners in different key capitals to lobby CSOs’ positions as mentioned above, and to influence member states in the preparations of the summit.
While your participation is welcomed and greatly encouraged, CCP-AU is unable to cover your travel and accommodations, due to financial constraints. However, CCP-AU along with its partners will be happy to assist in the visa process by sending an invitation letter to individuals who inform us the latest by January 7th, 2008.
