Gambia Hosts AU Gender Experts’ Meeting
(PANA)--A three-day international meeting bringing together experts on gender and related issues organised by the African Union (AU) and Gambian government gets underway in Banjul official sources confirmed to PANA Thursday.
The meeting, bothering on status of reporting and implementing Solemn Declaration of Gender Experts in Africa and on the African Women’s Decade (2010-2020), is being held as part of activities marking the International Women’s Day celebrations.
Participants are expected to look at the ‘mandate or contextual framework of and reporting on the implementation process’ of the Solemn Declaration of Gender Experts in Africa, noting the lessons learned, challenges and plans for the way forward. They will also study strategies that target the interventions toward combating HIV/AIDS, women’s participation in conflict resolution, elimination of gender-based violence among other issues.
