AU Selects Libya to Host Next Summit
(APA)--The Commission of the African Union decided on Monday, after several months of negotiations, to hold the 13th summit of heads of State and government of the African Union (AU) in Sirte, Libya, APA has learned in the Ethiopian capital.
The decision was made within less than two months of the date of the summit. Mauritius had requested to host the Pan-African meeting, after Madagascar, that was designated to host the it, was suspended from the organisation two months ago following the political unrest in the country. Consequently, it was decided to entrust the organisation of the summit to Libya, a decision taken after a meeting of the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) held Monday at the EU headquarters in Addis Ababa.
The AU summit’s agenda will start from the third week of June with the meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives planned 24 to 26 June. It will be followed by the 15th ordinary session of the executive council to be held from 28 to 30 June. Then from 1 to 3 July will be held the 13th ordinary session of the Assembly of heads of State and government.
The theme of the 13th ordinary session of the summit of the heads of State and government of the African Union is ‘Investing in agriculture for economic growth and food security’.
