Bamako to host summit for young leaders

(PANA)-- Over 250 youths from Africa and other parts of the world will attend the third pan-African summit for young leaders for meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), scheduled from 19 to 23 April in Bamako, official sources in the Malian capital told PANA Tuesday.

The theme of the meeting is ‘Actions against HIV/AIDS as a gateway to meeting the MDGs by 2015’. The summit is organised on the initiative of the West African Youth Network for meeting the MDGs, the National Youth Council of Mali and the United Nations.

According to the chairman of West African Youth Network for meeting the MDGs, Alioune Gueye, it will be about putting young leaders at the United Nations in a position to speed up the achievement of the MDGs by 2015, by bringing out a wide range of youths’ proposals regarding universal access to HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment.

The summit will also be an opportunity to review the commitments made by youths in 2006 in New York, for speeding up progress towards the MDG.
