Workshop on African Unionism

PANA (Libya)—A workshop convened here to build and consolidate African union leaders’ capacities recommended Tuesday evening the implementation of a practical work programme with a view to eradicate poverty as well as establish peace and social security on the African continent.

Participants also advocated the mainstreaming of the decent work concept in policies adopted in every African country for the respect of the social aspect of work and the adoption of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The event was held at the initiative of the Organisation of the African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), under the supervision of the Libyan Producers General Union and in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

In their resolutions, participants stressed that the development of human resources is the best investment for African societies and that teaching at all levels is a crucial issue and a fundamental human right.

In their message to leader Muhammad Kadhafi, participants expressed their deep appreciation of his support to the African trade union movement as well as his role in the construction of a united Africa.
