Provisional programmes for SOAWR Banjul AU Summit activities

SOAWR will hold a series of activities during the African Union Summit in Banjul for its campaign on the domestication of the Protocol of the African Charter on Women’s Rights. A Public Forum, a Symposium and a Book Launch will give to activists, policy makers, women’s leaders and grassroots and civil society organisations the opportunity to debate about the core content of the Protocol and the necessity to implement the instruments that it provides for the promotion of African women’s rights.

- The Public Forum will be on the Protocol to the African Charter on the Rights of Women in Africa: The effect of cultural and traditional practices in the implementation of instruments promoting women’s Rights. 24th June 2006 from 8.30 am, at Kairaba Beach Hotel;

- The Symposium is on the African Union Protocol on Women’s Rights in Africa: Strategies for Domestication and Rights Realisation. 25th June 2006;

- The Launching of the book Breathing Life into the Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa is scheduled for 25th June from 6.00 pm.
