EAC Meeting on Good Governance

(EAC)--The East African Community (EAC) Secretariat has organised a two-day consultative meeting for the partner states parliamentary committees and civil society organisations in Bujumbura, Burundi between 17 and 20 August, 2009

According to deputy secretary general (political federation), Beatrice Kiraso, the meetings are geared at incorporating views and comments from the two stakeholders on the proposed EAC draft framework on good governance in the region. The Bujumbura meeting is expected to bring together almost 100 delegates, including the media.

Among the highlights of the meeting will be presentations on the status of the EAC integration process and the activities to lay the foundation for a political federation including development of a good governance protocol. Experts will present for discussion papers on the role of Members of Parliament and civil society organisations respectively in promoting good governance.

The meetings are part of a series of consultations with various stakeholders that began since the first conference on good governance and regional integration in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in January this year. After the conclusion of consultations the good governance framework will be signed by the heads of State as an EAC protocol.
