Solidarity Concert on Darfur

Wednesday June 27, join Hugh Masekela - world acclaimed South African music legend in a Solidarity Concert on Darfur at the National Theatre, Accra. The event starts at 7.00PM.

This is an African civil society programme in connection with the African Union summit being hosted in Ghana.

Other performing artists are:
Amandzeba
(Ghanaian Afro Root musician whose lyrics evoke a sense of history and culture with the stress on the relevance of contemporary issues)

Gonje
“The music of Gonje (from Ghana) is traditional but it is not regurgitated folklore. It is inspired by Ghana’s and Africa’s rich past but it is not shackled by it.” (Kwaku Sakyi-Addo BBC Radio Journalist)

Kofi Anyidoho (Spoken Word)
(A Professor of Literature, known originally for his poetry in English. He is also a performer who pays homage to the cannons of traditionally rooted African oral poetry and song)

Sappers International Band
(A very versatile and hugely talented group that has performed extensively in Ghana. It also offers backing support for national and international artists)

There will also be solidarity messages and a visual exposition on the situation in Darfur.

The gates are FREE - so come early.

(This programme is initiated by a coalition of rights-based Ghanaian NGOs, the Network of African Freedom of Expression Organisations (NAFEO) and the Centre for Research, Education and Development of Rights in Africa (CREDO- Africa)

It is hosted by the Ghana Civil Society Coalition and co-ordinated by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA)
