Sudanese and African Women’s Organisations consult on the Summit
18th January 2006 Sudanese and other African women’s rights activists consult on the significance of the AU Summit taking place in Khartoum, Sudan. The discussion ranged on the relevance of the AU protocol for all parts of Sudan, possible reservations of the Sudanese Government to some of the Protocol’s articles and the need for an urgent campaign by Sudanese civil society organisations to popularise the Protocol and encourage the Government to adopt the Protocol. One of the Sudanese women activists present, "I was not interested in this Summit, it comes at the wrong time for us, but this meeting with other African women has stimulated great interest and opportunities for us".
