On June 8th 2007, the Solidarity for African Women’s Rights Coalition, Open Society Initiative for East Africa, ActionAid, UN Millennium Campaign and Oxfam with support from the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized three activities to popularise and inform the Government’s position on the AU proposal on Continental Government.

The Nation (Nairobi), 15 June 2007, Joseph Kabiru—For the first time in the history of the African Union, all the 53 African leaders will converge in Accra, Ghana, next month, to discuss an ambitious proposal for an African Union.
The heads of state, under the chairmanship of Ghanaian President Kufuor, are expected to debate whether to accelerate the continent’s integration by establishing a union Government by 2009 and the United States of Africa in 2015.

Femme Africa Solidarite (FAS) will be organizing a pre-summit meeting on “Gender Mainstreaming in African Union” on the 23rd and 24th of June in Accra, Ghana.
Correction: The GCAP workshop on Trade and Continental Integration is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 25th from 4-7pm.

It was a fitting tribute to Ghana’s first president and pioneer of the formation of the Organisation of African Unity, forbear of the African Union, that on the day the mortal remains of his wife Fathia were interred beside him, Ghanaians from all walks of life gathered at the Teachers” Hall, Accra, for a non-partisan debate on the goal of achieving Africa’s integration by 2025.
