(Press Release)-- Representatives of eight international organizations involved in agricultural development and water resource management have been invited to a one-day extraordinary meeting on Monday of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Ministers of Trade, Agriculture and Finance to discuss the soaring cost of basic food items in West Africa.

(NEPAD Dialogue)—Thirty new members from six countries were sworn in at the opening of the 9th ordinary session of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), which will continue until 16 May. The countries are Somalia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Zambia, Togo and Djibouti. Each member country of the African Union is entitled to five members in the PAP, based in Midrand, South Africa.

Sam Banda Junior (AfricaNews)—Three African trade blocs plan to harmonise trade policies so Africa can compete more effectively on world markets.Analysts say analogous regimes would help increase intercontinental trade, make the blocs more attractive for foreign investment and make trade negotiations less complicated.
