EAC Leaders Consider a Political Federation

(APA)--The heads of state of the East African Community (EAC) are on Wednesday expected to discuss the report on the national consultations on the fast-tracking of the East African federation. The national consultations include those carried out in Rwanda and Burundi.

Airlines Demand for Single EAC Visa

John Musinguzi (Busiweek)--Airlines in the region have expressed impatience over delays in instituting a single EAC visa. The delay is blamed for interfering with the flow of tourists. Majority of tourists in East Africa are from outside the region and so have to rely on air transport.

African Farmers on Trade and Agriculture

(ACORD)--A Pan African delegation recently travelled to Berlin, Brussels, Madrid, Paris and London to engage European farmers, parliamentarians, civil society and media in discussions regarding the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) and the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) both instruments that risk having disastrous consequences on African small scale farmers.

World Downturn Squeezing Africa

Roy Laishley (Africa Renewal)--As the world’s economic woes deepen, Africa’s leaders are delivering a strong message to the international community that it must help the continent protect the development gains of recent years. Ahead of the April meeting of the Group of 20 (G-20), a high-level consultative body, African leaders met with its host, UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, in mid-March to tell him that donors must honour their commitments to increase aid, improve trade access and agree to a fairer, more flexible system of managing international financial affairs.
