Chokora
From the kiswahili version to chokora is to misuse something and fidget/mess with something. Truth be told the street children in our country are messed with and their lives have no meaning to them. It is disturbing to see kids as young as two out in the cold at 10:30pm begging for coins on the street..they are being misused by their parents and guardians as a source of income.
sometimes I pity these children and their often very young mothers...n I always wonder what I can do to help them. I know for sure handouts don’t help then what. Its dishartening for me to sit and have a meal in the comfort of my home knowing full well that there are those out there suffering......
My adopted mother used to round us up on Christmas day and we would go and cook and feed families in Westlands. It was so touching the way they appreciated it and I know its once a year and its not much but it touches some1 on a special day. We should all make an effort to do even the littlest things to help the street children and families productively.
I want read other peoples opinion and experiences on the same because some of these children are in the street because of no fault of their own.

Nicole,
you are right about one thing,hand-outs are not the way to go,although as human beings sometimes we give in to our emotions and well we go ahead and give hand-outs.Its human but its degrading thats why paternalism is not a good idea.It reduces a person to just a thing which doesn’t help them.Honestly, I don’t know the way to go.We need to think and to think hard so as to help our fellow man.

to bring meaning to their lives, someone somewhere has to first of empower them by providing the basic needs, love, education, food, shelter, clothing.after all these have been met, then the other needs in the hierarchy of needs will definitely follow.that person could be anyone:me,you as long as we all work together in achieving this.

They are people like us and what makes us different is the lifestyle so we should try to give a hand whenever we can.
