Grateful for Beth Maina and Cenya Ciyendi’s ‘words of wisdom’, Zawadi Nyong'o writes that if the Kenyan government ‘would only spend all the resources it does on post-abortion care, on sex education and safe abortions, we would actually begin to start saving the lives of thousands of women, and indeed unborn children in Kenya.’

God bless you Cenya and Mumbi for your words of wisdom! I am so so tired of this abortion debate! Surely, if the government would only spend all the resources it does on post-abortion care, on sex education and safe abortions, we would actually begin to start saving the lives of thousands of women, and indeed unborn children in Kenya. So once this constitution is passed, I hope we can go the next step and start demanding more inclusive and progressive sexual and reproductive rights for Kenyan women. I mean, seriously – do these ‘men of faith’ actually think that legalising safe abortion would promote promiscuity? Since when was an abortion something that any woman looked forward to, or enjoyed? They should know that no woman would ever use abortion as her primary contraceptive method – legal or not. By the time a woman is having an abortion, it is because it is the best option that is available to her, in a very complicated situation. So you are right, the church should stop derailing Kenyans using abortion, and allow us to get on with the constitutional reform agenda.
