Wednesdays 6:30-8:30 pm: April 18th -June 27th 2001
at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine,
Keppel St, London, WC1 United Kingdom.

The course will provide students with a good understanding of some
of the most important health and human rights issues of the day.

The speakers have been chosen for their expertise in their
given subject.

The format comprises a one hour presentation by each speaker
followed by a second hour dedicated to participatory discussion.

April 18th  - The Right to Health
      Dr. Eva Gamarnikow of the Dept of Policy Studies,
       The Institute of Education, University of London.

April 25th - Providing Evidence: doctors and the courts
        Dr Christopher Milroy, of the Department of Forensic
Pathology, University of Sheffield

May 2nd - Doctors as victims of and participants in torture,
     Jim Welsh, Medical coordinator, Amnesty International

May 9th - Optional one week study trip to Geneva to monitor UN
human rights sessions Monday 7th-Friday 11th, at extra cost.

May 16th - Women's Rights, Gender and Health

May 30th - Identifying remains and evidence of human rights

June 6th - Cultural differences in responses to severe trauma
Dr Derek Summerfield, Honorary lecturer at
St Georges Hospital

June 13th - Chemical and biological genocide
    Dr Christine Gosden, Professor of Medical Genetics
at the University of Liverpool

June 20th - The medical documentation of torture
       Dr Michael Peel, Physician,
Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture

June 27th - The Role of doctors in the promotion,
protection and fulfilment of human rights
        Dr Peter Hall, Chair of Physicians for Human Rights-UK

Conference Fee - £100. Individual session fees - £20 each.
The cost of travel, accommodation and other expenses incurred
by the week in Geneva is the responsibility of each course
