Africa

South Africa - Louise Bwambale (member of the pan-African parliament) will
lead a rally on this date, involving children and adults to demand action
from African leaders on the situation of the continents orphans and
vulnerable children.

Activities have also been organised by Somoho, EJNF and Oxfam to take place
in Soweto. The 16th June activities based in the scenic surroundings of
Mountain of Hope will consist of a day dedicated to football matches, poetry
readings and music.

Mozambique - The campaign launch on 1st June attracted more than 100
representatives from different organisations, students and academics. The
press conference following the event received great media coverage and the
launch made the front page in a number of prominent newspapers. The launch
helped publicise the initiative before the planned march for the Day of the
African Child on 16 June. Actions will mirror activities taking place across
the continent to highlight the plight of African children.

Kenya - A variety of events have been planned in the lead up to the Day of
the African Child, including press conferences and visits to children's
homes and orphanages. Actions will end in a huge rally where 5,000 children
will gather in Thika to protest against the struggling livelihoods of
African children. The Vice President is expected to attend the event where
children will lead the rally in prayers and protest.

Senegal - A demonstration involving 500 children is played for the African
White Band Day, on 16 June. A huge lobby meeting with the President of
Senegal and children is planned during the event.

Sierra Leone - The official launch of the national campaign took place in
Freetown on 25 June. Participants included platform members, civil society
organisations, students, the media, government officials and the general
public ensuring that all members of society hear GCAP's message. The event
also featured a guest speakers ranging from Action Aid's country director to
the President of Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ).
