The Benton Foundation has redesigned its Best Practices Toolkit!

Our best practices toolkit is now:

Strategic Communications in the Digital Age:
A best practices toolkit for achieving your organization's mission

If you're a nonprofit leader, funder or technical assistance provider to the
nonprofit sector, this site is for you.

Here you'll find current trends and practices in nonprofit use of digital
media. And we hope we've organized the resources and tools in a way that
helps you get your work done effectively:

"Think it Through" covers what it takes to design & fund an effective
communications technology strategy, including planning, audience
development, message shaping, evaluation and funding.

"Put it to Work" offers organizational profiles, resources and tools to help
you implement your plans for advocacy, building community, creating
partnerships, reaching your audience.

"What to Watch" provides a window onto what leaders and innovators are
saying about trends in such topics as online fundraising, nonprofit Internet
use, e-commerce, the digital divide, nonprofit policy and other
communications issues important to the nonprofit sector.

"Peer2Peer Learning" is the place to go to join online discussions and share
with others your own challenges of planning, implementing and evaluating
your communications effort.

Funders Corner was built with the foundation program officer in mind.
Especially those currently engaged in or considering supporting the
communications efforts of their grantees.

In addition:

* a What's New section
posts newly added
resources and is also available via email. To subscribe please send email
to [email protected] with "subscribe" in the body of the
message.

* Nonprofit Communications Headlines looks at the news of the week and
highlights just those stories relevant to nonprofit communications
.

* We also encourage you to visit our Suggestion Box to provide feedback and
ideas for future development of the site
.

And lastly, some historial background for those who may be interested...

The Best Practices Toolkit began its life January 1998 as a project of
Benton's program in Communications Policy & Practice to help nonprofit
organizations find resources that would enable them to more powerfully use
the Internet. In 1999, the Toolkit played a role in Benton being selected
as managing editor of AOL Foundation's Nonprofit Resources @ Helping.org.
In the same year, the Toolkit also switched affiliations within Benton,
moving to the newly developed Communications Capacity Building program. That
program underwent a strategic planning process in 2000 that led to the
refocusing of our work to nonprofit strategic communications involving all
new (and especially converging) media, including the Internet. "Strategic
Communications in the Digital Age" represents the current direction of
Benton's Communications Capacity Building program. More about the program
can be read at:
