A man cannot hate the whip with which he is being flogged but then be expected to love the person doing the flogging. When such a black man, lying helpless bleeding on the ground expresses hate for the white person wielding the whip, it is only reasonable.

Many times, in the presence of whites, I have found myself in a position that no black person should ever find themselves in. After being accused of being a racist by liberals and conservatives, both black and white, I have found myself having to explain my existence as a black person and why the system does not favor a person of color.

Having said this, there are two things I want to address: First, I have lost patience continuously explaining what it means to be privileged to a white person and why black pain is valid. Second, I understand that black people have a right to voice out their pain. Their pain does not require validation from a white person to be considered real. If your arrogance as a white person is blinding you from seeing this, then it’s time you did some introspection. Do not be quick to jump on the “victim” bandwagon and accuse blacks of being racist. Black people can never be racist – we never had the tools or power to institutionalise racial oppression. So next time you as a white person want to accuse black people of reverse racism and insufficient anger – check yourself and your privilege.

May we learn to stop equating the need to speak out against racial inequality with “angry blacks” or “black people punishing whites.” We do not have the time or energy or interest to hate – but what we do have time for is the emancipation of the black person both physically and mentally. Do not attempt to silence our voices. You will fail horribly at that. Black pain is valid and it demands to be felt.

On discrimination based on one’s colour, I can only concur that blacks can be prejudicial towards whites - but not racist. What do I mean? Before I attempt to give an explanation of my argument, I first have to define words that serve as the premises: prejudice and racism. Prejudice refers to a positive or negative evaluation of another person based on their perceived group membership. Racism on the other hand refers to social actions, practices or beliefs or political systems that consider different races to be ranked as inherently superior or inferior to each other. Furthermore, racism is socio-economic, with systemic structures which promote one race’s powers over another. Socio-economic being the operative word, I am certain you will agree that black people do not have the resources to impose such oppressive structures which enforce their superiority. White people on the other hand have, and had imposed them on blacks for over four centuries of slavery and colonialism. Black people can be prejudiced, but not racist.

And quite frankly, we black people are tired of having to deal with white people who have an inclination to play the ‘you’re also racist’ card. The energy and time invested in voicing such statement should be focused on understanding how whites can alienate themselves from their privilege and what is the source of black anger. By so doing whites will understand our pain and realise that they need to free themselves from the prison of privilege that took centuries to construct. The exclamation of such bigotry that blacks are also racist is incited both by white arrogance and ignorance. It’s about time we unpack all of the clueless vitriol that often comes from white people when we dare to talk about “black pain.”

We need to reject the notion that the blackness of our skin absolves us to the hate we are capable of spewing from our lips. We need to address the white view that when we talk about race we always seek for an easy target instead of a debate to transform the whole society. It has become a norm to be told that we are not the only victims in this world and racial oppression does not need to be given first priority over many oppressive issues caused by multitudes of privileges. For example, a black male is told to check on his heterosexual privilege, gender privilege, etc. The gender and wealth privileges are the most pardoned privileges amongst blacks and mostly they serve as a liberal propaganda in a form of campaigns to argue that we all have one form or the other of privilege. All forms of oppression need to be addressed but white feminism is far from multiple societal oppressions a black woman has to experience.

Lastly, we have to address those who are quick to accuse us of segregation when we question a liberal integration of all races whilst one race continues to thrive on the exploitation of the other. The segregation we advocate for is not a principle or a worldview but a tactic needed to remove hegemony from the struggle. Whites need not to reduce black pain by feeling the need to equate it to how they have also been mistreated and it is very suspicious of white liberals to quickly shout that blacks are also racist and their defence when they are asked to examine their privilege.

First of all, when black people voice out their pain that is not the time or the platform for whites to also “voice out an opinion.” White people need to learn the importance of respecting contexts and what is appropriate, at what time. When a woman has been raped, she is comforted and efforts made to give her justice; she is not simply told: “Oh, but don’t deny the fact that you too are capable of rape”. I find the white arrogance disgusting.

As concerned black people we are tired of having white people want to claim the spotlight even when all we want to do is talk about our pain. That is why we have been distancing ourselves from whites because black people have been robbed of opportunities of dealing with our pain on our own. Because in the past, every time we did, there was always a white person saying the same kind of thing or thinking in the same parallel: that the struggle is about classes in society not race. Why must black people educate white people on what it means to be humane? We are tired of doing that. And it’s crazy how the people closest to the oppression have to constantly explain themselves and their anger. This isn’t about you. Your opinion is not wanted. How dare you want to equate our struggle as black people, our black women especially, to what you go through?

The major problem with those who accuse blacks of being capable of racism lies with the comparison of pain. Our pain is an existential truth in its own right. You need to understand my fellow black people when they reject white involvement now. It’s primarily because of people who are arrogant and who think that “freedom of speech” allows them to speak whenever they want to.

Second, these are the things that do not sit well with me: 1) White and black scholars always in the forefront of defining and describing racism to the level of their academics or experience. Is it as if they are saying that people who are not white or from European origins or even academic route should not point out flaws in White people’s use of words in regards to reasoning because the colour of our skin discounts us from such a privilege? Apparently it is arrogant for us concerned blacks to even think about correcting a white person’s use of English on the context of racism. 2) The usage of the word racist being subject to find relevancy in the awful practice or hate speech by a black person. My assertion is that a black person’s attitude toward white skin could be prejudice – not that black people are racist. The usage of the word racist relative to a hate speech by blacks on blacks or whites is incorrect. A subjugated group cannot be racist – they can only be prejudicial. As I have pointed out, people have to make up their mind in regards to what exactly they seem to be advocating for. The colour of my skin does not discount me from being racist, but the very society that we as blacks find ourselves in – where we are automatically inferior due to the continuous systemic support of white privilege – discounts us from being racist. Due to the fact that we find ourselves in this inferior position it is impossible for us to be racist – do not make the struggle seem superficial by likening it to the colour of our skin – it’s more than that, and you need to start recognising that. Black liberals are buying into white people’s ignorance if their integration does not question white hegemony, arrogance and privilege of centuries.

There is no need to be petty – you have your opinion and you have the right to voice it. Just recognise my right to disagree with that view. Your advocacy – in saying we are racist for questioning your privilege and arrogance - shows exactly the mentality that black radicals have always been speaking out against. Just because a black person chooses to differ from the whites’ worldview, they should not be painted as bitter or hateful – I am allowed to speak out and differ form your view and my thoughts just like every other human being must be recognised as valid.

The call regarding the need for others to check their privilege is something that is important but completely irrelevant to debates on racial constructs – there are other victims in this world but the fact is that white privilege is still largely supported in South Africa – pointing them out is just an attempt to distract us from the topic at hand. Even if we engage on your matter – you must recognise that black people themselves must still face their subjugation by race in addition to their subjugation by wealth, gender, etc. So we will check our privilege, but recognise that your context is easier because you do not have to first bypass any constraints that your race places on you. Whites also need to be reminded that their privilege is mainly at the core of what keeps most of the world’s population underprivileged.

Whites who refuse to acknowledge the fact that in the current system blacks cannot be racist will necessarily miss the MASSIVE nuance around the discussion of structural and systemic oppression as opposed to simple slurs or offensive statements. In missing that nuanced discussion you would miss the opportunity to contribute to solving that problem. You would simply continue to ignore it. You would continue to alienate the real victims of oppression by equivocating their suffering to any prejudice experienced by someone who has the social standing to shrug it off. You would derail and scuttle the progress of those trying to solve the actual problem by forcing discussions to be re-focused on your own misunderstandings. You would continue to come across as bigoted and annoying. But if you want to continue with your way of looking at things, my suggestion would be not to continue to voice them on a comment of someone who has voiced their frustration based on experiences of oppression.

For a black person who for 500 years has known nothing but colonialism, nothing but apartheid, nothing but imperialism, it is only logical that such a man would hate the system. And reasonably, a man cannot hate the scourge that has whipped his body for centuries but love the person who has been doing the whipping. When such a black man, lying bleeding on the floor, helpless, professes to hate the white person wielding the scourge, it is only reasonable. The only time such a man can ever be accused of being racist is when he has his own scourge, equal in length and quality, as the one held by the white man whipping him. It is when the bleeding person is equal to his tormentor that he has the power to exert anything on him and to be racist.

On all accounts of the traditional definition of racism, you are correct. However, let's address prejudice, bigotry, and a lack-of-equality. When you look at black culture in America and how they perceive and perpetuate harmful attitudes towards homosexuality, your argument isn't as strong. There's a good track record of countless black politicians institutionalizing hatred toward homosexuals and Arabic Muslims. To that effect, yes, black people are racist. They just lack the power to be racist against a stronger group but have no problems with a weaker one. Black, white, whatever, we are all humans and suffer the same small minded flaws.

I agree mostly however there are 2 definitions one for ALL MANKIND the other for systemic racism .. blacks may not be able to be systemically racist as of yet (though exceptions you name south africa right now killing white farmers ) but they ABSOLUTELY can be the very first dictionary definition straight across the board any race can be .. If they hate white people they are a racist if a white hates black people they are a racist. 600k whites bled to free them from small amount that kept them and still nowadays its hate whitey and is getting out of hand.. the only reason anyone would want to reject the first dictionary definition of racist and only quoting the 2nd is so they can hate and spew disgust against a race without being labeled the racist they are.

WRONG!!! The definition of racism applies to all races, this article starts out with a black man getting tortured, he hates the white guy torturing him, that isn't racist because he isn't hating based on race but on an individual's actions!!! All definitions apply to every race or no race at all!!! Black people can ENDEFFINATLY by racist... or discriminate based on race with thought of one's own race being supporior(for example thinking your race is excused from racism) in some way!!!

Black Racism is JUST as bad as white racism. Both Exist in our society as problems. To deny that is to deny logic and reason.

I think the issue is more nuanced than that. One, I don't think white LGBT folks are a weaker community than Black people. But, more than that, take NYC Councilman Charles Barron for example. Many LGBT folks thought he was homophobic and I was unprincipled for working with his Congressional campaign. But, it was clear to me that just because he did not believe homosexuality was moral (because that's what his church taught), that he would never engage in any punitive or discriminatory political action. For ex. he endorsed the broadening of NYC's anti-discrimination law to include queer and trans folks--and urged other politicians to do so when many other city council members would not. Think the black homophobic city council members changed their mind because of what a gay person said? No, but they would listen to Charles Barron. Go ahead, look up his record. Councilman Barron was also an early politician securing funding for housing and services to people living with HIV/AIDS when most liberal politicians wouldn't dare "taint" themselves working to help gay men or needle users (of which there were many of both). Some people need to work with people who don't believe everything they believe in (esp. white folks) if we are going to build coalitions broad enough to radically change this horribly harsh capitalist system/City we live in. Esp. when its really a personal thing that hurts our feelings (and yes, it does hurt) more than impacting law. Thanks for listening.

You said yourself Barron is one example. And that the homophobic black city council would not listen to a homosexual. Isn't that like saying White people during slavery times were not racists because there was Abraham Lincoln? And when it really comes down to it, there is absolutely NO CHANCE that prejudice will not show in some form or another towards a group that he deems immoral. If he were a landlord or employer and had to decide between a homosexual or heterosexual, all else being equal, for instance, there is no doubt in my mind that homosexuality will have a factor in his decision. Whether it be to save the sinner or avoid the sinner. And this is prejudice. There is no way that deeming a group immoral will not have real effects on them especially in a world of limited resources. I'm not trying to attack you, I'm really not, so please take this as an invitation for debate and nothing more. You say that his church taught him that homosexuality is immoral as if that's a good explanation. Are the Islamic misogynists excused if they were taught sexism in their mosques or certain Mormons excused of their racism if they were taught dark people were descended from sinners? Are white people excused for believing black people are inferior because they've lived in a society that floods their eyes and ears with images of black criminality. People have their own brains and opinions. They need to use them. Following the crowd is no excuse. The fact is that people can not be judged by the things they have no control over like homosexuality or race, where they were born, their height, etc. People that are discriminated against should ALWAYS realize this and fight for each others' equality. Maybe Barron realized this about homosexuals and that's why he fought for them. People SHOULD be judged on what they CHOOSE to believe or do only. And I don't believe it's always the case that we need to work with people that choose differently from us. Should Hillary work with Trump, meet in the middle, and form some half-racist laws? Sometimes morality needs to be forced upon people as we've seen countless times in American history.

Thank you for writing this, it's very thorough and I hope to share it with others. However, you say, "When a woman has been raped, she is comforted and efforts made to give her justice; she is not simply told: “Oh, but don’t deny the fact that you too are capable of rape”." This is not true. Every. Single. Time. rape has been brought up, someone always questions her, and then tries to turn any conversation into "don't forget women rape men too!" Every. single. time. Without exception. The statistics on how many rapists actually serve any form of sentencing is scarily low, and those that do usually get off incredibly lightly. Most of the time energy is spent in defending the rapist, NOT attempting to bring any form of justice to the woman. And yes, this is absolutely worst when the woman in question is black. I don't know if it's appropriate to ask that this section be edited or not, but the so called "justice" system (including the legal and medical investigation of rape - often re-traumatizing the victim) is part of the institution of racism and colonialism, and I think it's vital that we recognize that.

Oh how dare we demand evidence for a crime for a horrible crime? And we don't defend rapists. But the system that you claim is simply horrible states "innocent until proven guilty", not the opposite.

There have been many lying women and provably so .. To simply believe a female at her word is not justice .. Some people have had families murdered and though innocent are investigated quite thoroughly and painfully while in grief but this has to be done to find truth and to serve Justice things are not perfect . All people can be racist btw it does not matter who is in power at the time .systemic racism the 2nd definition in the dictionary is used above so if a black person hates you for being white they are a racist no matter how much an attempt to grey up the truth is.

Not every rape is real... people lie and about 50% of all aqusations are considered unknown, as in no one knows if they are false or true, 2-8% are true, 25% are false(might have swapped the numbers around, I don't remember, so just fact check from a .org, .edu or .gov source). And men do get raped, but not as much and women are not blaming all malesand claiming not to be sexist... because that would be sexist to claim such a supporiority! Blacks can be racist, women can be sexist! These are as factual as whites can be racist and mdn can be sexist! Not all men are, just as not all women are... no one is defined by their group unless they identify themselves in that way... which is stupid because we are one giant human race!!!

Bullshit Mens lifes are ruined by nothing more than a rape accusation, even if PROVEN innocent their life is ruined, and the woman gets away with little to no punishment for INTENTIONALLY RUINING someones life. How dare you talk like women would get no justice?! I'd agree with harsher punishment for rape, but i do not accept that you talk like men were priviliged especially in cases like this, where it's definitely the women who are and i don't accept the idea that men should be punished first and asked later, rape is horrible, but it's not less horrible if a life gets completely destroyed just because a woman wants to do so! And that DOES happen Jesus christ, that's something u cant denie, and you would go crazy if the genders were reverse and men would demand harsher punishment for women or women being punished first and asked later, so where's the goddamn equality modern 'feminists' talk about?! Also, saying black people cant be racist is racist, because you're putting them on a whole different level. Exactly what racism is.

Interesting concept, I pose this perspective ... Humans, "all of human kind" are nothing more than violent sophisticated animals. I am actually astounded and marvel at the atrocities we commit upon one another; out of hate, fear, power, lust, envy, greed, pride.  However, ones capacity to be racist has nothing to do with lineage, background, or race.  It is a learned behavior, therefore if racist is a 'learned' behavior ... any human can be racist, just as every human has the capacity for evil ... and good as well.  Understand we must not be ruled by our own pride, spite, and ignorance.  Race is more than black and white and if those 2 groups think they are the only ones in the racisim argument than we have a lot of history and research to absorb. Blessed be -xBURNx

We should change the article name to Why Blacks in America can't be Racist. To even mentioned Rwanda and Zimbabwe is racist in it's self because we are African-Americans and you may be White-Americans and so fourth...but we are Americans and "we never had the tools or power to institutionalize racial oppression" on White people here in America but to racist people all they see is the pigmentation. but not that we are Americans, and lost all African ancestry, name, and identity information during the enslavement process here in America (but of course you knew this David B) but it is easier like the article stated to be "incited both by white arrogance and ignorance" when that is all you know. Let's just keep it simple: Prejudices may exist in us all but in this AMERICAN system this definition of racism stands as is has to everyone who isn't White American but to Black Americans especially who were enslaved by the system: "Racism refers to social actions, practices or beliefs or political systems that consider different races to be ranked as inherently superior or inferior to each other. Furthermore, racism is socio-economic, with systemic structures which promote one race’s powers over another. Socio-economic being the operative word!" KEEP IT SIMPLE

Sorry, although your long winded interpretation of what the American system created in order to drowned out your particular race. What you mention is called a conspiracy theory, one which seems so real to you, yet it is the classic Communist struggle deviated from financial indifference, onto various races. These communist struggles help gain support by the individuals who feel oppressed by the " privileged". Nothing new here, your struggle is the same as the farmers, who deemed moral failures on those privileged individuals due to not sharing the same moral code. Look up some Friedrich Nietzsche, particularly the section on Slave morals versus Master morals. You will find more information to help take you out of the dark pit of conspiracy you call institutional racism.

As a fellow South African is breaks my heart to read an article with so much misguided hate. I was also born after 1990, for goodness's sake what pain and whipping are you talking about? How dare you devalue the actual victims of the South African Struggle by twisting it into a platform to perpetrate the same hate and discrimination that this country’s history is wrought with! I’m honestly shocked by some of the things you wrote here and I can’t seem to shake the bitter taste it’s left in my mouth. This is article is NOT an accurate representation of the demographic, most South Africans are happy to try to get along with one another regardless of race and try to unite in the New South Africa. I cannot believe that after all this country has been through to assimilate and unite, you portray our socio-economic standing with such stark segregation and disdain. I admit we can't just forget about colonialism and apartheid, but can't we look forward to the future of this wonderful nation without constantly focusing on its somewhat ugly history? South Africa has been blessed with some of the greatest altruistic leaders in history and regardless of what I’ve read here I will continue to embrace the values and visions of these great men and women. Proudly SA!

The root word of racism is RACE. Any race. A person of the black race that is bigoted to people of the white race are RACIST. White people are not doing anything to black people. In fact, black people are free to leave this country any time they like. If they feel they are being mistreated, they can, and should do that. So don't talk nonsense. In the same way that Germans are not right now exterminating Jews, white people are not in any way in power over black people. We are currently equal. What happened in the past, before anyone here was alive, makes less difference than the fact that black on white crime is far greater than white on black crime. I am very tired of hearing that it is Ok for black people to take advantage of white people, accept their taxes, expect favoritism, all because of nebulous power disadvantage. Obama is our president. he is doing many things I do not like, but I can not stop him, because he is too powerful. If Obama can use his race to his advantage, and call out anyone that doesn't like his tax heaviness, or lack of citizen protection as racist, then we can not ignore him as a fact that black Americans have more power then white if anything. You can not always have your cake and eat it too. Martin Luther King is not around. Let us deal with the things done by people living today, shall we?

The difference between you and the writer of the article is that you in the United states and he is in South Africa. South African conditions are different to those of America. A South African person can't afford to pack up their bags and leave the country because they aren't rich enough to do that. If they were to do that that only they are going to move to a even poorer country and be a refugee. Majority of white people are rich therefore they don't need to commit any crimes unlike the black person who has to find a way to get a meal or send their siblings school and clothe them. Yes they could go to but school but you know they what, they can't afford to go to school because when apartheid ended they left the whites with 80% of the wealth and the blacks with 20% of it meanwhile the population is 80% blacks and 20% whites (those are just estimated) so obviously they are going to commit crime because they have needs to meet up to. South African black and white people aren't equal.

First of all, the majority of white people are NOT rich. if anything a decent ammount are middle class citizens, that does not equal rich. and just because people have a lot of money doesn't mean they wont commit any crimes. That is indeed a stupid statement. someone being poor does not make it right for them to steal and commit crime. if a white person used that excuse they would still be punished, it doesnt matter the race and its still wrong. you forget that a lot of black people steal and buy drugs. you cannot deny that. the money does not go to a good cause. They wouldnt go to school if they had the opportunity to anyway in most cases. i dont know where you got this statistic for what race has the most money, but its very incorrect. black people dont have money because they dont want to work most of the time. this is very true, you will find. Your estimate of the percentage of whites to blacks couldnt be more wrong. the population is only about 12% black, and 75% white. you are one STUPID person.

Every person, or group of persons, can find something and someone in their history who has wronged them - and the further back one goes the more opportunity to find a target for hate. Racism does require power or influence, personal power or influence over another person. If I hate, but I am never a racist if I never have or use my power/influence over another; defending oneself against another is also not racism. Using power/influence against another because of their race out of fear, for revenge, or for retaliation is wrong and racist. Slave owners, bigots, fear mongers, politicians, all humans have the ability to rationalize/justify their behaviors. What you have done to my brother, any other relative, person, or group of persons does not give me a free pass to "hate" and hurt you or any other because of the color of their skin, gender, sexual preference, religion, nation of origin, age, or socioeconomic status. Hurting someone to make yourself feel better is wrong.

This is easily the most ignorant thing I've ever seen on racism. Racism has a clear meaning, recorded in dictionaries going back over 100 years. The definition is simple and direct. Racism is the theory or belief that some races are inherently inferior to others. What a sad state of affairs when people are so poorly educated that they were never taught to look up the meaning of a word.

Just you thinking that only people who are white can be racist, is the very definition of being a racist. I would suggest that you go and do some research and really go get yourself educated. I will leave you with this quote from Osho "NOBODY IS SUPERIOR, NOBODY IS INFERIOR, BUT NOBODY IS EQUAL EITHER. PEOPLE ARE SIMPLY UNIQUE, INCOMPARABLE. YOU ARE YOU, I AM I."

Know this is late, but this article is crap. Sick of seeing the "Blacks can't be racist because they're black!!!" crap. So let's examine the very DEFINITIONs of racism, courtesy of Webster, shall we? Definition 1: A belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. Now, I'm sure we can all agree that racism is quite bad. So with that in mind, that's saying that blacks are inherently superior to others in this way because they do not have this flaw. But wait a second, that's the very definition presented here! So that means Blacks can, by this definition, INDEED be racist! Definition 2: A doctrine or political program based on the assumption of racism and designed to execute its principles. I'm not really going to say a thing about this one. One can easily point to groups like Black Lives Matter, but I will not. Definition 3: Racial prejudice or discrimination. You admit yourself that blacks can be racially prejudiced. But wait, that's ANOTHER DEFINITION OF BEING RACIST! So there you have it, by at least two of the three definitions of the very word, according to Webster itself (which I've read articles try to use to "Prove" they can't be racist) and, many would argue, the third as well, black people can indeed be racist. In fact, I've met more racist blacks than racist whites, racist Asians, racist Latinos, etc. And one thing they tend to have in common: "Oh no, I can't possibly be racist because I'm black!" If you don't accept that as fact, despite even admitting technically that they can be racist by admitting they can be racially prejudiced (again the very definition number 3 on Webster) then I'm sorry, but you are really deluded.

Hi there. Let me greet all races first with respect. It is very sad to hear the views above regarding black people not being able to be racist. We all have our opinions & beliefs but let's be fair for once. I read the replies but I will stay away from the semantics utilized in the original piece. Ofcourse black pain must be avoided but not remembered with hatred but only God can help us blacks when we look back in history to see how we were treated by white or a clearer shade race. I'm from the island of Jamaica & I'm what you call a "browning" neither pure black nor pure white but 1/16 black is black right in the eyes of the white race. There must be sensitivity as it relates to how us black people were treated and still being treated today by other races; however, the black race isn't the only race that went through slavery. I just wanted to purge out any bias & hypocrisy related to the original writer's mentality. I'm not gonna focus on the white race at all....they've been like that (thinking they're superior than other races not just blacks) for centuries but I'll focus on us blacks. Because of my clearer shade (brown skin) not only have I experienced prejudice from darker skinned blacks but racism as well and my mother has a darker shade than mine. In black owned companies I've noticed that because of slavery the darker shades blacks in authority try their best to keep out the clearer shade blacks like myself. Apparently they darker shade blacks see us "brownings" as being closer to whites than actually being black....smh many times. Not all darker shades in authority are like this but I noticed you did touch a little on the blacks being prejudiced part but danced around the racism part giving explanations etc.... Hear me loud & clear....when I'm in your country I'll stay away from blacks like you plus any white person who displays an ounce of racism.....too often I see this hypocrisy from us black people where we curse the white man yet take his money, not looking at ourselves in the mirror plus allowed the white race/mentality to dictate what is the norm. For the darker shade blacks who treated me nice no problem but I avoid the racist blacks...call a spade a spade. This is not the time for definitions....hypocrisy is in blacks & whites so it is either you want to do to white people what they did to our ancestors in the "Middle Passage" or you shine the light of truth everywhere. I think it's better dealing with an openly racist white person than a hypocrite racist/prejudiced or whatever you wanna define it as black person cause at least you know what's what & I'm speaking from experience. Take it from me who have experienced the subtle form of black racism that darker shade blacks now use with impunity & get away with it, hence highlighting the lack of respect for themselves which the white race/other races have taken advantage of eg settin blacks against blacks. Notice I've stayed away ftom bashing the whites.....I just stay the hell away from the racist (Aryan/Caucausian) ones but I stay away from the black skin haters too. Have you ever seen Al Sharpton or the one Jesse spoke up for a beaten clearer shade person but you only see them activated for the black skin.....hypocrites you damn racist blacks....All lives matter not just the skinned color closest to your own.

This entire statement is false and shouldn't even be an article. Black people can be racist without a doubt. The N word was used by whites when slavery was a thing back in 1619-1865 and meant "Black People" in a harsh way. So yes, white people CAN be racist but so can blacks. During the slavery times, the black people used the word "Cracker" which meant "White people" back then and was also a harsh word. Any type of human no matter what skin color or race CAN BE RACIST. And there's many other racial slurs black people can use to offend OTHER RACES. And just so you know, Sobantu Mzwakali, there are more than 2 races on this earth.

1, The very statement that black people can't be racist would suggest that only certain minorities can be racist thereby, is racist as racism is by definition "prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior." - Oxford Living Dictionary 2, This article was written in 2015 and according to what I could dig up you were a mere 22 years old at the time, if this is correct, what whip have you been personally flogged with? and who perchance did the whipping? my guess is that this event did not happen to you, but instead you are using the unfortunate events of the black person's history to further justify the racisms you feel in your heart. ~I did not whip you or your ancestors so why blame me or any other person not responsible for the sad and horrific actions committed by our ancestors~ 3, I, as a white person, also am tired of apologizing for both myself and my family tree. My family didn't write the laws and no matter how horrific and bastardized the actions of my ancestors - it was a socially accepted practice at the time. I am not defending their actions I am merely pointing out that perhaps you should be pointing your finger where it needs be pointed. It was not white people who made the laws or preached the abusive situations - It was the government and religions that did that. 4, On a final note - this is not an attack on you personally, it is an attack on racism as a whole. we will only ever be free from racism when everyone can agree that there is only one race - THE HUMAN RACE!

"A man cannot hate the whip with which he is being flogged but then be expected to love the person doing the flogging. When such a black man, lying helpless bleeding on the ground expresses hate for the white person wielding the whip, it is only reasonable." I totally agree on that. If one has been beaten one should not be forced to hate the perpetrator. If one has been personally has been a slave oppressed by white people, ones hatred towards that group might be understandable, but would in fact still be bigotry; though considering the circumstances no one would be too angry about it. Racism on the other hand is "the belief in the superiority of one race over another, which often results in discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their race or ethnicity." Though today one may use the word "racism" and "bigotry" synonymous, I don't. In fact, the belief in superiority of the own race is not a white only belief. Black people have as well, where black people were the majority, been racists - thought of themselves as superior to other races. So black people can be racists too. Today, only few white people and only few black people think of themselves as the superior race. So in fact, both skin colours have their shameful members. Bigotry on the other hand, the hatred and discrimination towards other people, is not a white thing only. As we can see, many a black person have the same idiotic ideas. Claiming otherwise is pure ignorance. One shall not hate. One who has not been a slave, as slavery went away centuries ago, has no reason to hate white people. So ones arguments aren't correct. White people have been mistreated by black people was well, if one wants to take a more historic perspective. Should white people hate black people then? No! We live today and not in the past.

Modern day racism in America, started with the Trans Atlantic Slave trade. Quite frankly, it was about cheap labor. Over the course of a few hundred years, this micro level exploitation grew into macro level exploitation. That exhibited many characteristics, such as bigotry, discrimination, dehumaniziation, ignorance, hate, etc...how can blacks be racist? When seeds of of racism were planted and cultivated by the capitalist.... that whipped blacks during slavery, who segragated blacks during reconstruction with Jim Crow laws, and eventually created FBI Cointel Programs to prevent the rise of “black messiahs”. Causing dissentient in pro black organizations. If we can reasonably say seeds of a plant will not grow correctly unless cultivated properly. We can reasonable say black people in America can only mirror the the condition in which they are cultivated in. The farmer has that control and since the farmer(whites) . Truly don’t want many blacks to be on the same social economic status as them. It makes it very hard for black people to be racist.

Ridiculous! Black people, African americans included, are and can be racist. They even create a form of racism within Blacks. Go read what Americo liberian did to the local african ''brothers''. You will never hear all the Black whiners address this shameful behaviour of newly freed and liberated blacks whom right away once they got the opportunity not to be subjugated but to subjugate, put local africans in an inferior position and even sold some as slaves. Talk about hypocrisy. Critical thinking and self-accountability, 2 notions most Blacks can't deal with. People are outraged by the treatment that black africans undergo in Libya where they are treated and sold as slaves, rightfully so but not many pose the real question, what f.. hell have african leaders created in their own country that young men and young women indebt themselves, travel by sea often not knowing how to swim in the hopes of being exploited in Europe? Black people hurt other Black people worse than Whites do.

"we never had the tools or power to institutionalise racial oppression". Okay, what about when you enslaved the Jews? Or maybe when you sold off your own people? Racism does not require power, just hatred. And before you all go "Check your white privilege!!", don't forget I'm Hispanic, a Latino (none of that "latinex" bullshit). Anyone and everyone can be racist. But I suppose by your logic, I can't be racist, right? I'm a minority. But that's a bunch of bullshit. ANYONE can be racist to ANYONE!!

It’s as simple as this. The slavery, hatred, and torture received by blacks happened far before our time, like you said. You didn’t experience it, and I didn’t enforce it. So how can you hold a grudge against someone who has committed nothing against you? And whatever so called “white privilege” I have is counteracted with many disadvantages. So sure, I don’t experience the same issues as you, but you certainly don’t experience the issues of mine or many other whites. And Like you said yourself, you have your opinion and you have the right to voice it. Just recognise my right to disagree with that view...But the problem is, that seems to be everything you argue against, that instead of disagreeing with you, I should simply “know my privilege”.

ok this article says racism on the other hand refers to social actions, practices or beliefs or political systems that consider different races to be ranked as inherently superior or inferior to each other. so you saying that I'm superior when I'm not is being racists. are you ready for some real racism. because after that statement falsely defying what racism means saying you cant be racist but then you be racist. black people are dumb if that's honestly what they think. nice job contradicting yourself

The fact that people read this and agree or amen it or give it a right on is why there may be a problem in the first place. At some point in the history of mankind every race has been put into slavery and mistreated. In some places this is still going on, but in the United States of America we are concerned about what happened 100+ years ago between the black and white races. Who cares that certain countries in Africa, South America and a few others people are still being forced into slavery, beaten, starved and killed. Oh no, let us just worry about how the black race was oppressed and how, because they're not running the country, they are still (in their minds) somewhat oppressed by us white devil's. I mean, supposedly us white people brought them to America and enslaved them and beat, tortured, starved and murdered them (even though the natives that were here first are basically are non-existent) but yet they flourish in numbers, education, entertainment, as well as many other fields. I mean, heaven forgive those who removed their ancestors from a place still struggling economicly, has had and will always have a dictatorship government, a country in which tribes would fight and capture each other only to trade them into slavery, horrible medical care, and starving child only to relocate them to a place in which they were fed, clothed, and housed for their services. NOW, FIRST and foremost I do not and nor will I ever believe that slavery was/is/or will ever be ok and I am not saying that several of these workers weren't mistreated and/or exposed to the most extreme types of punishment. I also agree that issues of race were a huge problem a very long time ago. This country has overcome some major obstacles in the way it used to be compared to the way it is now. In today's society being a racist is not only a major sin but it's politically incorrect and extremely taboo. No white person wants to be labeled as a racist. There are a few out there who act like fools and throw words around that are painful to the black race, but in all fairness, it goes both ways the only difference is that it's not a sin or taboo or politically incorrect to called a white person a honky or a cracker; To me, that spells out REVERSE RACISM. Yes black people can be racist and prejudice, every race can be.

Hi. I believe in individual differences. No one can speak for me. The only person who can share my experience, is me. So, any time a person speaks in generalities and assumes that they are speaking for a large population of people, I can not take what they say seriously. Share your experience. Speak for yourself. That is enough. Tell me your personal experiences. Don't tell me how others are feeling. They can speak for themselves. I can tell you about my life, my experiences. I can tell you what i have felt in my bones, my cells. The pain i have felt, the suffering I have witnessed. "Privilege"? That assumes that all people have the same definition of well-being. "Privilege" is a word that "privileged" people created. "Success" within status quo society has every thing to do with socio-economic positions of relative power. Now, more than ever before, it is socio-economic position and your ability to conform to status quo culture that will determine your probability of "success" within said culture. Race, gender, sexual-orientation -those are simply distractions that drain the energy that could be put towards a united cause for Freedom, Ecological Justice, and Social Justice for all. If you're a good capitalist and give your energy to the industrial complex, and if you are okay with having to pay to live, you will fit in just fine. Being misfit to that arrangement has nothing to do with colour. I am not "privileged". I didn't create this obstacle course. It does not represent my values. Focusing on the fact that I am a woman and that this system was created in a state of gender inequality, that every single organized religion came from a society that was in a state of gender inequality... and i could go on and on and on and on... and on... and on... and I won't, because that does nothing to change the issue, which is simply this: peace is about cutting through the bullshit and being for one purpose: Love. All inclusive. Love. There is one code of ethics. There is one moral standard. That standard is universal. It does not change along lines of gender, race, ethnicity, orientation. Love. What is love to you? What is respect to you? What is love to him or to her? What does respect look like to her or to him? Communication is key. You see a "white woman". I am so much more than what you are capable of perceiving -that is clear. So, then, let me tell you. Or are you assuming I have nothing of value to contribute? Is that because of my ancestry or because of my gender? also, none of us would be here if Trees and Phytoplankton did not exist. We are nothing without the Earth. capitalism sucks. industry at the expense of social and ecological justice sucks. massive extinction and climate change sucks. Enough with these ridiculous distractions. What is important? If you think your suffering is more important than all others on the planet because of your race, then, frankly, you are being racist, and you are missing the point.

YOU are dead wrong to hate all whites for the whip of A white man .. just like you are wrong to hate all blacks if you get beat down by a Black man .. if you do you are now a RACIST regardless of power or position .. dictionary definition 2 is systemic racism which includes power ..but you cannot reject the first one to fit your agenda which may be to freely hate all white people and not be called what you are a RACIST!

I live in britain, thank god i dont live in london, what is happening today in london is sickening the white indigenous population, and probably sickening the decent people of many other ethnic cultures. we have a large scale gang warfare, drugs, hammer attacks, gun crime wave that is happening every day now in london, the main perpetrators are black(this is a fact) but if we mention this fact, we white people are called racist, which many white people are so angry about. yet the crimes are happening, we even have our deluded politicians slating the police for searching black suspects despite them being the main culprits. we even have the news failing to report the colour of the assailant when hes black for fear of being seen as racist. this country has mass immigration. we have lost control of our borders, we have lost the streets according to sources. we have disproportionally more crime committed by blacks, mainly on other black ethnics. we have multiculturalism, with so many different ethnic groups who dont get on, living and fighting in streets which used to be predominantly white indigenous population, and if we complain, we are racist. yet blacks can kill other blacks, hate other blacks, hate whites, and not be racist, anyone who thinks blacks cant be racist needs to be educated. im all for a bit of racial diversity, and immigration, yes controlled immigraiton, but please dont come into britain, hate other people of a different race, then play the racist card because we dont like the crime wave that is happening., remember, blacks, of different religious and cultural differences do hate each other, and white people dont want it in britain. that is not racist. its many blacks who are racist, remember folk, if your black and you go about shooting people, we whites will not like you, and its not because of the colour of your skin, but something else not difficult to figure out. blacks can be racist fact.

If someone hates someone due to their race, their heritage, you damned right they are a racist and blacks arent exempt from racism. There is a video on utube of radical white hater Louis Farrakhan saying " Islam allows for the killing of whites." You damned right this hateful black man is a racist. He doesnt want to restore peace with whites, he wants to murder them. Farrakhan is a black version of the Ku Klux Klan. When Obama ran for president against Hilliary he said his white grandmother who raised him showed 'typical white behavior." Obama apologized and won the presidency. Had the same thing been said about a black grandmother by one of another race. blacks would have rioted and the candidate made to not run for office..Yes blacks can be racist, anyone of any race can be racist. Psst. White man wasn't carrying the whip. The entire black slave trade was handle by Jews according to their historians and scholars. They ran it globally from 1400-1860 and owned 80% of all American slave farms. The slaves would never have got their without the Jewish slave trade. After doing so, they have kept blacks and whites divided while blaming whites because the jews pretended to be American. Now they do this today... Israel Cohen 1912 “We must realize that our party’s most powerful weapon is RACIAL TENSION. By propounding into the consciousness of the DARK races, that for centuries they have been oppressed by Whites, we can mold them to the program of the Communist Party. In America, we will aim for subtle victory. While inflaming the Negro minority against the Whites, we will endeavor to instill in the Whites, a guilt complex for their exploitation of the Negros. We will aid the Negroes to rise in prominence in every walk of life, in the PROFESSIONS, and in the world of SPORTS and ENTERTAINMENT. With this prestige, the Negro will be able to INTER-MARRY with the Whites and begin a process which will deliver America to our cause. .” AUTHOR – Israel Cohen(Zionist — Communist — Internationalist) “A Racial Program for the Twentieth Century” >Published in 1912,. Wow... Someonw need to brush up on their English... Racism is just preconcieved notions based on race. That's LITERALLY what "Prejudice" means, to "PRE JUDGE" someone. The Vast majority of officially recognices dictionaries globaly agree that its in combination with a feeling that ones own race is supperior although its not required to qualify. The problem with the marxist idea that racism is supposedly "Prejudice+power" is thats its intellectual "rigor" tranalates to something a college stoner high on paint thinner would cook up in the bathroomll to get out of detention as it's a self defeating argument, a black person telling a white person their life has no value and they all deserve to die simply for being white is textbook racism, but they defend themselves with "I can't be racist as I hold no position of power" well... There are a myriad of holes in this but the two absolute obvious and which undermines the whole concept are 1. A person using this defence may never EVER get into a position of power or what they just said would be racist as f**k and they would themselves be even bigger racists than whatever white man they yelled at, this is all applicable rethro-activkey, again, not my rule, BLM, Reg-lefts and sjws have countless times dug DECADES into someone's past to legitimize labeling them racist so don't bullshit me with some "I didn't have powers when I said it, so it doesn't counts" if it counts for everyone else, it counts for you as well. Same rhetoric was brought up when Obama was elected, it didn't matter you had a black president, THE most powerful guy in the world cuz the white people still held the power they got from all the white former presidents, again applied rethro-actively. And so black people using this as a defence are setting themselves up to fail as they either will lock themselves out of any potential power OR they're even worse than the people they called racist. 2. The most common version of this is "Blacks can't be racist, only prejudice" once again we don't even have to step out if there own premise, so OK, let's say black people can only be prejudice, but racism IS "Prejidice+power" right? The only way a black person can say that and keep the "morale high ground" is if the prejudice is not in fact what make it bad, meaning it MUST be the power part that makes it evil. This is a really brain dead idea for several reasons like "why even call not racism then? It's essentially basic power abuse and there is already a word for not "Power Abuse" but the most damaging to anyone using this defence is the fact that power by itself does not exist, it requires someone to wield it for it to manifest. If I had the power to execute anyone at any point, that's one hell of a power and from this example one that would appear horrendously evil however.... If I never use this power, not even once it only ever existed in theory, left by itself power is capable of nothing, it IS nothing unless used by someone. This automatically lands the ONLY reason power can be seen as a bad force in the lap of the wielder, this is a catch 22 as if prejudice is not bad, it's the power that makes it bad and the powers takes it form from the viewpoint of the wielder it would mean it's prejudice that makes the power and, which makes prejudice bad, which makes power bad...Circular arguments works because circular arguments works because.. The other option for someone using this defence is that it IS the prejudice that is in fact bad but the power lets you enact it, again without stepping outside the premise THEY set up this argument has already crushed itself as what this black person just did in this scenario is admitting they're just as bad as the person they're berating. They're just as hateful, bigoted and disgusting trash as the white guy and would be doing the same, if nit worse things to him if only they had the ability to do it.... In what way would this black guy be a better human being than the white guy? Its like saying "Where equally bad, but Im chained to a drain pipe hence CAN'T go kill people, that makes me a better and morale person. Only it doesnt, not doing something because youre stopped is NOT a morale restraint, its not a choise YOU made ergo you dont get morale points for not doing it All of this is still within the fireworks they set up themselves but there are countlesa counter points to this when you leave it. As for example, 1. no black man "have known nothing but slavery for 500 years" as no black man IS nor will ever be 500 years old 2. Slavery atleast in the west where the majority of these shrieks comes from ended slavery some 148 years ago. 3. More white guys died ending slavery than in any other war in history. 4. Only about 3% of white people owned slaves, making black people who seeing ALL white people as colonialists and slave traders biggots. 5. In an altercation between a black and a white civilian, NONE of them hold an inherent position of power. Collectivism doesnt work without being racists, sexist, classist etc as the entire philosophy is built on an in-group/out-group dichotomy... There has to be an outgroup for an ingroup to exist and when you put people in these grouop on abitrary characteristics you are marginalizing and discriminating against them. I dont give a shit what some white dude who is long dead did to wrong some black dude who is long since dead, Ive done NOTHING therefor I apologize for nothing and if you think YOURE entitled to something from me because what someone who is not me did to someone who is not you centuries ago, you got another thing coming... By those standards I want you to return my fathers bike first, it was stole by a black guy so I guess in this youre responsible, its not like we're all separate individuals with free will or anything. Notnthat I think itll matter but I might aa well te you anyway, im not a racist, I dont give a fuck what color anyone is, but when racists like yourself (yes, saying black people cant be racist IS in fact a racist statement) try to boss people around for make believe reasons I take offence. Unless you yourself was actually a slave at some point, youre full of shit and even IF you were it doesnt justify extrapolating youre individual experience to every living black man... I myself have sufferes way worse oppression than for example multimilioner trust fund baby Jonathon Buttler, yet he stands in an evy league college screaming how "he has nothing to lose but his chains" I meam, are you fucking kidding me, youd have to be lobotomized twice ro even stop yourself from laughing at the suggestion. Suck of you had a rough life dude but guess what, I in like the VAAAAST majority if white people had nothing to do with it. Every single person is capable of hate, but when you hate people whove done nothing cuz they happen to have the same Skin color as someone who DID do something, thats judging them on the color of their skin, not the content of their character ans THAT very much the definition of racism.

A blackman CAN INDEED be racist .. you cannot rewrite the definition to fit your hate . ALL MANKIND can be racist no matter position of power . You realize that your hate of white men has nothing to do with a whip on YOUR back does it NOR on others ..and back during slavery no ALL white people beat blacks with whips a very small amount that owned slaves some of them did this .. but many many whites died helping to free slaves .. but not good enough for this generation ..they want to hate ALL WHITES and NOT be called racists . this white privilege is a LIE WHY? because its a normal thing for whatever race founds a country! There families pass down wealth and the foundation set up to the culture of it .. so its not just a white privilege..what are you going to get in CHINA? you think white privilege is there ..wanna bet its ASIAN privilege .. to take a normal natural thing and label it to be bad does not make it bad ..fathers and mothers DUTY is to provide what they can for their children and so on .. If I went to a fully black nation there wont be white privilege there either go to a muslim country no white privilege there but their will be muslim privilege ask any white person that spent time there ...so its a NORMAL thing per each country to pass wealth and create systems for the race that established it ..fortunately here in the USA even tho justice can be slow it changes because its the best we have on earth to as a government ..I would love for you to attempt even this article in china under their laws call out ASIAN privilege.. see how far you get!

Tbh this article is just insane, I can't believe someone would think like this. Anyone can be racist, the definition clearly states so. I'm quite tired of people constantly saying Black People can't be racist, because they can. ANYONE can be racist, Whites, Blacks, Asians, Ect. It's ridiculous how someone can get away with racism just because of what color they are. I and many other whites very clearly support blacks and any other ethnicity, we do not hold any hatred simply because of someone's color. I don't see why you think WE did what our ancestors did, it just doesn't make sense. Yes, our ancestors did do some unholy things to black people, but are we doing it now? No. If anything, black people have more rights than white people now. Black people can say anything to whites but when a white says the color "Black" not even towards a person, they are bombarded with people calling them racist. The support group "Black Lives Matter" I support this group, but I support "All Lives Matter" more. Black lives do indeed matter, but it's not just black lives that matter, ALL LIVES MATTER. This includes white people. The "Black Lives Matter" group is indeed racist themselves, they killed a white man for holding up a "All Lives Matter" sign when they were doing a "Black Lives Matter" Campaign. Which is disgusting, you shouldn't kill a man because he supports all groups, that's contradicting your whole movement by proving that you're indeed, racist towards whites. Now I don't want anyone to misread my comment. I support ANY and ALL ethnicities, I am simply stating that Black people can indeed be racist, as can White people, Asians, Indians, Ect. Anyone can be racist towards anyone, it doesn't matter what color you are, you're not excluded from being racist simply because of your color. I can See that people should be treated equally, no matter what color or what they look like. That's all I have to say.

This is soo dumb black people arnt sistamaticly oppressed in fact there helped for example afrrimintive action significantly increases the black population in colleges and takes the spot away from more worthy students... studies from the Washington post show that America is one of the most tolerant, free, and least oppressive countries on the world so the idea that America is racist is silly. A white person and black person have the same right and both can be come politicians, busisness men or women, and own property. Now there are some thing I would change like our prison system which and drug convictions and make them all the same so drugs that African Americans use don’t have higher sentences then the drugs that white’s use. Who do you think the whites got the idea of slavery and racism from??? The Middle East and African nations who subjected their own citizens and sold the to the Europeans so maybe place some blame on your own ancestors for selling you off for guns.

I disagree when it say that black people can't be racist, I have seen so many videos where African American's call white people "You F***ing Cracker," Like that not right, I' not saying that all black people use this, but There have been a lot of videos with this term being used towards white people, so I don't understand how black people cannot be racist, because they can, they just don't see it.
