In Ghana, the Ministry of Health, the School of Public Health and the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (both institutions within the University of Ghana) will work with the other Gates partners to develop an innovative training programme to contribute to capacity building within the national malaria control Programme. Following a needs assessment, training materials will be developed and targeted at the most needy groups. Vacancy: Training Manager (Gates Malaria Programme)

Following a substantial award from the Gates Foundation to the London
School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, a malaria research and con-
trol training programme has been established in collaboration with
southern partners in Ghana, Tanzania, Gambia and Malawi and northern
partners at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, the Danish
Bilharziasis Laboratory and Centre for Medical Parasitology, Univer-
sity of Copenhagen.

In Ghana, the Ministry of Health, the School of Public Health and the
Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (both institutions
within the University of Ghana) will work with the other Gates part-
ners to develop an innovative training programme to contribute to ca-

lowing a needs assessment, training materials will be developed and

fore be required to co-ordinate tasks aimed across the full spectrum

relevant organisations.

Considerable international travel will be required and so the suc-
cessful candidate must be comfortable with presenting to interna-
tional audiences.

As this is new Programme, it is anticipated that the person will lead
the project team in developing the programme as it evolves. The post
will be based at the School of Public Health, University of Ghana,
Legon.

Person Specification:
* This is a senior management position.

* Candidates must posses at least a Masters degree in a health re-
lated discipline, candidates with Masters in either development plan-
ning, education or other relevant disciplines will be considered if
they can demonstrate work experience within healthcare.

* Significant experience of curriculum development and understanding
of modern teaching methodologies.

* Evidence of strong managerial skills, including co-ordinating tasks
and people, budgeting and administration.

* Evidence that the candidate is an innovative, highly motivated
self-starter.

* Evidence of successful bids for funding.

* Computer literate - an interest in the knowledge of computing and
multimedia technology.

A very attractive and negotiable salary commensurate with the demands
of this role is available. The initial contract of appointment will
be for a period of two years with the possibility of a further two
year renewal.
