December 2003, Gaborone, Botswana

With HIV prevalence rates in antenatal clinic attendees of 35.4 %, Botswana is one of the countries at the epicentre of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Despite this, the role of research in the national response to the epidemic has continued to take a back stage. The National AIDS Coordinating Agency (NACA) in collaboration with all stakeholders and developmental partners have, as a result, found it necessary to hold the first ever National HIV/AIDS/STI/and other related infectious Diseases (ORID) Research Conference - NHASORC 2003. It will be held from the 7th to the 12th of December 2003 in Gaborone.

National HIV/AIDS/STI/ and Other related infectious diseases Research
Conference, Gaborone International Convention Centre, 7-12th December 2003
Botswana - NHASORC 2003

With HIV prevalence rates in antenatal clinic attendees of 35.4 %, Botswana
is one of the countries at the epicenter of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Despite
this, the role of research in the national response to the epidemic has
continued to take a back stage. The National AIDS Coordinating Agency (NACA)
in collaboration with all stakeholders and developmental partners have, as a
result, found it necessary to hold the first ever National HIV/AIDS/STI/and
other related infectious Diseases (ORID) Research Conference - NHASORC 2003.
It will be held from the 7th to the 12th of
December 2003 in Gaborone.

The main aim of NHASORC 2003 is to provide a platform for sharing research
data and experience by scientists that have done or are currently doing and
/ or intending to do HIV/AIDS research in or about Botswana. It will
identify research gaps, impediments to research implementation and
coordination as well as, determine the scope of utilisation of Botswana
generated research data and existing sources of funding for research in or
about Botswana. Thus, NHASORC 2003 will be used as a framework for
streamlining national research priorities and for determining dissemination
modalities in line with the just finalised National Strategic framework.

Therefore, if you have in the recent past conducted research in or about
Botswana or are intending to and or if you are from the region and have
research results that you think might be applicable to Botswana send in your
abstract and come and be part of our conference. We also invite interested
national, regional and international individuals or groups that would like
to hold skills building workshops, pre-conference and/or satellite meetings
to submit to us their proposals.
