The National Land Committee is a network of land reform NGO's providing assistance and support to rural communities across South Africa who are seeking access to land. The national office of the NLC, which is based in Johannesburg, is seeking a person to coordinate its National Gender Programme.

The duties of such a person will include:

1. Provision of support to affiliates in the development and
consolidation of their gender strategies at both a field and organisational
level;
2. Supporting NLC staff, management and the executive to advance
the goal of gender equity in their work;
3. Contributing towards the creation of a gender-sensitive work
environment in the NLC office and network;
4. Initiating and implementing national projects and processes
which will contribute towards the goal of gender equitable land reform
and rural development;
5. Lobbying and advocacy, and networking; and
6. Day to day management of the National Gender Programme,
including financial oversight, fundraising and donor liaison.

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

1. 1st degree in social sciences or a related discipline and/or
equivalent work experience;
2. A sound grasp of gender issues at both a theoretical and practical
level;
3. Project management experience;
4. A good grasp of the workings of the NGO sector;
5. An understanding of land reform would be an advantage;
6. Experience in networking and campaigning would be a distinct
advantage;
7. A valid drivers license;
8. Ability to travel and willingness to work after hours; and
9. Good verbal and written communication skills.

The NLC is a progressive employer, with a commitment to affirmative
action. The annual salary package is approximately R150 000 (plus
medical aid and pension) and will be negotiated according to the skills
and experience of the successful applicant.
