The International Training Centre of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) based in Turin, Italy in collaboration with the Commission on Gender Equality (CGE) South Africa is offering an on-line distance learning programme of 12-weeks duration. Twenty participants will be registered on the three-module programme, running from 15 August to 15 November.

Poverty alleviation, employment promotion and gender equality

The International Training Centre of International Labour Organisation (ILO) based in Turin, Italy in collaboration with the Commission on Gender Equality (CGE) South Africa offers an on-line distance learning programme (12 weeks duration).

Course outline:

The programme on “Gender, Poverty and Employment” provides participants with an overview of the gendered nature of poverty in South Africa and in the world. It offers practical and analytical tools to develop strategies and programmes for poverty alleviation and the empowerment of impoverished communities, especially women, through employment promotion, extension of social protection and measures targeted to address the problems of the informal sector. Because the programme is internet based, participants will be required to complete assignments within prescribed deadlines. On completion of coursework, a certificate will be awarded by the ILO Turin Centre.

Who should attend:

Policymakers, potential policymakers and implementers involved in poverty alleviation and employment creation programmes based in various South African government departments and social partners institutions. Prerequisites for the participation is that students are computer literate and have access to Internet-based computers.

Duration: Twenty participants will be registered on the three-module programme, running from 15 August to 15 November (12 weeks).

Cost: Because this is a pilot programme funded by the Flemish Government, tuition fees are waived.
