In celebration of International Women’s Rights Day HURISA will be
launching a Women’s Rights Training Manual and conduct a workshop
on the use of the manual.
The training course is aimed at trainers in NGO’s, government and other
stakeholders interested in promoting Women’s Rights. Topics include:
The International Instruments on human rights
- The Universal Declaration on Human Rights
- CEDAW: Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of
Discrimination Against Women
The Regional Instruments on human rights
- The African Charter on Human and People’s Rights with specific
reference to women
The National Instruments on human rights:
- SA Constitution and the Bill of Rights
- Women’s rights in South Africa with special reference to new
legislation e.g. Domestic Violence Act No 116 of 1998, Maintenance
Act No 99 of 1998, Employment Equity Act No 55 of 1998
- Mechanisms to redress women’s rights
- Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act No
4 of 2000
- Sexual offences Act 23/1957
The training manual is aimed at providing participants with:
(a) an awareness and understanding of women’s rights issues
(b) women’s rights training skills
