Seeking Female and Male Fieldworkers to conduct a Household Survey and Qualitative Research on women and men’s relationships in Gauteng Province
Gender Links, a non-governmental organization which promotes gender equality between women and men, is conducting a research project to understand women and men’s relationships in the province of Gauteng. Gender Links is its headquarters in Cyrildene, Johannesburg.
The Household Survey:
The services of the fieldworkers will be required for approximately 2 to 3 months from August to October 2009. Successful applicants will need to be willing to work on a flexible basis visiting communities around the province.
Work will involve:
* Locating and enrolling adult women and men in randomly selected households around Gauteng to participate in the research.
* Supporting the women and men in completing a computer-based survey in their homes.
* Keeping field notes on diaries.
* Irregular hours and some overnight travel.
Requirements:
* Female and Male, all races, preferably first-language IsiZulu, SeSotho and Afrikaans speakers
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Matric completed
Available August to October 2009
* Preference will be given to candidates with:
* Prior experience with fieldwork or survey research
* Demonstrated high levels of computer skills
* Valid driver’s license
* Experience using GPS technology
* Some tertiary study

The Qualitative Research:
The services of the interviewers will be required for 2 months from September to October 2009. Successful applicants will need to be willing to work on a flexible basis visiting communities around the province.
Work will involve:
* Locating and enrolling adult women and men in households around Gauteng to participate in the research.
* Conduct in-depth interviews using a digital device.
* Transcribe and translate (into English) recorded interviews from a digital device.
* Irregular hours.
Requirements:
* Female and Male, all races, preferably first-language IsiZulu, SeSotho and Afrikaans speakers
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Junior degree and/or Matric completed with experience
* Available September to October 2009
Preference will be given to candidates with:
* Prior experience with in-depth interviewing and qualitative research
* Demonstrated high levels of computer skills
* Demonstrated high levels of language skills
* Valid driver’s license
* Experience with transcribing and translation using digital recorder
* Some tertiary study
