Women play an important role in the use of energy. In developing nations the major immediate source for domestic use is firewood. However dependence on forests for firewood as well as burning fossil fuels has lead to increased greenhouse gas emissions, desertification and conse-quently affected human health and food production. To mitigate this problem, alternative sustainable sources of energy must be sought and advocated for. This seminar aims at familiarizing women from developing nations with reliable and proven renewable energy technologies, suitable for use in tropical and sub-tropical regions. The seminar will be held back to back with a two-days conference on “Community Technology for Sustainable Development”.
