Communication for Development Specialist
CAB INTERNATIONAL (CABI) is seeking applications from suitable persons for
the above position funded under the Dutch Associate Expert Programme.

organization. CABI's mission in Africa is to improve livelihoods through the
generation, dissemination and application of knowledge in sustainable
agriculture and natural resource management. Our vision is food security and

The Position
The position is based at the CABI Africa Regional Centre in Nairobi, which
works in 6 thematic areas: rural knowledge systems, smallholder commodity
chains, sustainable pest management, alien invasive species, conservation
and utilisation of biodiversity, and information & communication
technologies. The post will be varied and challenging, and suit a dynamic,
highly motivated individual with ability and determination. The Associate
Expert Programme provides young scientists from developing countries the
opportunity to acquire work experience in the field of international
co-operation outside their country of origin. The post includes specific
training and learning components. The Communication for Development
Specialist will be part of a team promoting the availability and utilization
of information and knowledge by rural communities, in the field of
sustainable agriculture and natural resource management. The post is
initially for one year, extendable to 3 years.
Qualifications and Experience
Masters degree in a relevant subject or BSc/BA with at least 3 years experience
Excellent written and oral communication skills appropriate to a multicultural
environment
Awareness of constraints facing smallholder farmers in Africa
Knowledge of participatory research
Experience of working with rural communities and preparing dissemination
materials
Under the age of 32 at date of application
Developing country or trust territory nationality (as recognised by the
Netherlands)
