Women’s Legal Aid Centre, (WLAC) on behalf of the Southern Africa Non Governmental Organizations Network (SAHRINGON) Tanzania Chapter has organized a two days Tanzania Social Watch Country Forum to be held from 1st to 2nd July 2005 at the Karimjee Hall to contribute and support the Global Campaign on the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP). The Forum will be attended by SAHRINGON members, Government officials, Representatives from UNDP, Members from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), people from upcountry regions (i.e members from the Social Watch focal points (grassroots monitoring groups) from the districts of Kibondo –Kigoma, Iramba- Singida, Nachingwea – Lindi, and Bagamoyo-Coast Region, and media personnel. The forum will be preceded by demonstration, which will start from Mnazi mmoja area at 8:00am and arrive at Karimjee Hall at 10:30am.
Objectives of this country forum are as follows:
To present the fact-finding report conducted in Kibondo (Kigoma) and Iramba (Singida) in November 2004 and March 2005. This report had assessed the progress of social development ten (10) years of implementation of Copenhagen Declaration, Beijing platform of Action as well as five (5) years of the Millennium Development Goals in the respective areas.
To raise awareness to the public on the social development.
To collect more information on social development from different zones as well as listening to the testimonies from the participants from up countries.
To identify more stakeholders in the social development issues.
To forward recommendations to the government on further initiatives on strategizing for social development in the country
The theme of the Country forum for this year is “Every citizen has right to quality public services”. Therefore, all Participants of the country Forum will wear WHITE Bands to mark the Global Call to action Against Poverty Campaign day. The topics to be presented during this forum include:
Human Rights: “Right to development”.
Information on the progress towards poverty eradication in Tanzania.
Information on the progress towards achieving gender equality and equity in Tanzania.
Presentation on the Iramba and Kibondo fact-finding report.
Civil Society perspective on the progress towards poverty eradication, gender equity and equality and the availability and accessibility of public social services.

The document was originally drafted by the Social Watch coordinating committee during the World Social Forum in Brazil and improve by the World Social Forum participants. The same document will be launched during the NGOs hearing at the UN-New York Building organized by the NGLS.
