'Transition and Democracy in Zimbabwe - a Civil Society Perspective'

The deepening crisis in Zimbabwe is having a profound impact on the entire
SADC region, and South Africa in particular. It is now estimated that as
many as 3,5 million Zimbabweans have moved to neighbouring countries, with
over two million of these now living in South Africa. Much time and energy
has been expended in analysing the causes of this crisis and in seeking
scapegoats to blame for the myriad economic and social woes facing the
country whilst the situation continues to deteriorate daily. This is
taking place within a context of increasing repression and political
violence in a desperate bid by the ruling party to hold on to power and
silence all dissenting voices, whilst paying lip-service to the need for
dialogue with the opposition MDC.

You are invited to attend an evening briefing hosted by the Zimbabwe
Advocacy Campaign which will be addressed by the regional spokesperson of
the 'Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition' with a response from a representative
of South African civil society on their position on transition and
democracy in Zimbabwe. Details of this briefing are as follows:
