Position Description
Assistant Director for External Relations

The Heller School promotes social justice and human health and well being
for all. These core values are reflected in an institutional commitment to
beneficial social change, respect for public service, and investment in the
development of public and private sector policies and practices that enhance
human development. The Sustainable International Development (SID) Program
mentors and train students, many from poor nations, in development theory
and skills for planning equitable, environmentally sound policies and
programs.

As a member of the core staff of the SID Program, the Assistant Director
of External Relations will be responsible for the following:

1. The Assistant Director will work with the director, faculty, and
student advisors to identify and establish on-going relationships with
selected institutions overseas for joint applied research projects that may
afford opportunities for second year Master's Degree students.

2. The Assistant Director will negotiate internship opportunities for
SID students with selected institutions around the world; counsel
students-in-residence and faculty on the development of second-year
projects; and guide students through the Program’s approval process.

3. The Assistant Director will research funding opportunities for
second year projects and other grant opportunities and manage the process of
drafting, approvals and submission. The Assistant Director will serve as
liaison to the Development Office at Brandeis and the Heller School for
funding proposals.

4. The Assistant Director will be responsible for other writing
assignments as determined by the Program.

5. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with other senior
staff within the MA/SID Program, the Center for International Development,
and faculty and staff from other Heller School Centers and Programs.

The successful candidate will posses the following qualifications:

1. A Master's Degree or equivalent experience in a field related to
international development.
2. At least three to five years experience in the field of
international development and an excellent familiarity with development
institutions.
3. Professional writing experience particularly with project and
funding proposals.
4. Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
5. An ability to work well with people of diverse national, racial
and cultural backgrounds.
6. Excellent productivity in a dynamic fast paced environment.
