World Youth Development and ICT (WYDI 2005) Conference Secretariat is pleased to announce the forthcoming conference to be held in Arusha from 11-12 August 2005 with a theme " Young People Creating Global Culture". The conference will bring more than 250 young professionals, community leaders, NGOs leaders, University students, ICT professionals, and all lovers of youths.

Background
World’s history is replete with sad massive HIV/AIDS infection among youths, great gap between poor and rich, youth digital divide, and massive memories of massive human rights violations, much affecting youths; thousands of young people in most parts of the world have lost their lives and property of their parents under mysterious circumstances, many are dying with HIV/AIDS without knowledge to combat, many youths don’t know their part in community development, many talented youths are neglected in governance of their nations, many young professionals with know idea how to serve their community.
The youths must therefore be mobilized to play important roles by making every one aware of these critical situations and provide direct collary to strategies for plan of actions which must become a daily reality in our society. Everything is a matter of information, mobilization, education, awareness and prevention.

The conference shall therefore enable the youths focus on fostering among the populace a sense of respect for their development, one’s dignity and freedoms.

3.0 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Main Objectives of the Conference are as follows:
• Promote intercultural education as factor for youth empowerment
• To share international and organizational experiences in the fields of Health, youth development, community development, governance, HIV/AIDS, ICTs, etc.
• To strengthen the linkages with other youth groups and organizations to foster exchange of experiences, information resources and develop common strategies. Establish sustainable partnerships among youth organizations around the globe
• To create youth awareness on self-development and employment
• Highlight the imperative of cultural development and preservation in the evolving global order
• Increase youth participation in the preservation and protection of Environments for sustainable Development
• To equip the youth with full knowledge of HIV/AIDS fighting and helping their community to fight with the deadly diseased. Establish youth awareness on HIV/AIDS and create new techniques in educating the rest of the community.
• Increase youth participation in the community development, Governance and peace movement.
• To increase youth awareness on the role of ICTs for Development
• To make youth to be aware about NEPAD and to recognize their role in successful implementation of NEPAD.
• To build a mode/tool for youth mobilization towards fulfilling what will be discussed and presented.

Other objectives are:
• To instill in the minds of youths the value of self-confidence, participation in community development, HIV/AIDS fighting, peace, and to make youth feel and identify himself/herself that is the future leader of the nation.
• To equip the youths with knowledge of principles and values of volunteerism, democracy and development which are integral part of human rights

5.0 The Conference Components:
The conference components are:
(a) Presentations on best practices and innovative approaches within the network
(b) Plenary Discussions will deal issues relevant to development with a focus on youth. Linkages will be made to various conferences and OVF networked efforts. Issues discussed will include:
i. accountability and transparency
ii. civil society
iii. human rights
iv. ICT4D
v. women and youth empowerment
vi. social enterprise incubation
vii. sustainable development.
viii. MDGs for youth Empowerment
(c) Back to the Root Total Immersion workshop featuring oneVillage Unity Center bootstrapping and social enterprise incubation model. The theme of back to the root workshop will be grassroots/youth/women empowerment and includes:
i. Cultural presentations and experiences featuring excursions to historic places, nature and youth development projects in and around Arusha, Tanzania.
ii. Introduction to Assets based community development model ABCD
iii. Techniques on use of ICT to evaluate community assets
iv. Exploration effective practices to ensure integration of technology and global culture with local cultures
v. Preliminary field agent training including personal rediscovery and identity through cultural immersion and the localization of actions towards a community oriented grassroots.
vi. Developing a practice of inclusion and participation within the grassroots.
vii. Communication of grassroots to national and global elites
(d) The closing day will be celebrated by visiting different community youth development projects for Cultural immersions (such as historic places, nature and youth development projects) and Arusha National Park at Momela

First Day: Address the need for more concerted efforts to address human needs focusing on Africa. Specific focus will be on issues like human rights, sustainability, effective governance and Pan-African cooperation. Discuss the role of the youth in the successful implementation of trans-African institutions like NEPAD, and the key role youth will play in making them more effective and relevant to the needs of common people. Also explored will be issues of Cultural Identity, Religion and Traditions, youth advocacy and accountability.

Second Day: Emphasize the importance of practicing tolerance, cultural diversity in development programs and the role of youth in propagating more benevolent development practices. Also discuss the importance of redefining African’s cultural awareness towards a stronger sense of local identity and pride in being African. Educational program should continue to integrate the many aspects of African culture into modern culture. Explore the challenges of developing a modern culture/society that is also MADE IN AFRICA.

Third Day: Implication of information technology in the development of human culture, Youth and Peace, Youth and HIV/AIDS and the systems of governance and constitutionalism to facilitate youth culture and development

Fourth Day: Addressing transparency and accountability in not only financial ways but also addressing integrity open communication and conflict resolution within the NGO community. Discuss moral and ethical challenges to transparency that inhibit open and authentic governance. Explore issues of youth livelihood Security, Growing divide between rich and poor and its implication on youth development, youth and ICTs Development.
Concluding Events: At the end of the Conference/Summit, a declaration shall be signed by all participating delegates and an International Secretariat (to be known as WYDI International Secretariat) shall be formed. Further, the participating countries will bid for the hosting the WYDI Conference/Summit in the year 2006. The Secretariat will be responsible for informing associated and relevant networks of the conference proceedings and also keep its members informed of any important news after the conference. In addition a final session will close the event after attendees have a chance to give feedback both verbally and written to conference ogranziers.
Also At the end of the Conference/Summit, an International Youth Volunteer for Rural Support(IYVRS) shall be formed. This will be a tool to support youth for volunteerism and community empowerment support especially in rural areas.

6.0 Expected Conference Outputs:
• Creation of a Global Culture to which the youth can substantially identify
• Signing of an WYDI Declaration
• Creation of youth tool for mobilizing what has been presented, promote youth volunteerism, and participation in community development; These tools will be, Creation of the “WYDI International Secretariat” ( for organizing future conference ) and “ International Youth Volunteer for Rural Support(IYVRS)” –(for promoting youth volunteerism and participation in community development.
• Declaration of the next host for the WYDI 2006
• Creation of a Global Peace to which the youth can participate in community development and promoting good governance and health
• Increase youth awareness for Holistic ICT development for Eco-Living, HIV/AIDS Fighting, and Community Development
• Promote intercultural education as factor for youth empowerment
• Establish sustainable partnerships among youth organizations around the globe
• To create youth awareness on self-development and employment
• Highlight the imperative of cultural development and preservation in the evolving global order
• Increase youth participation in the preservation and protection of Environments for sustainable Development
• Establish youth awareness on HIV/AIDS and create new techniques in educating the rest of the community.

5.0 Conference Participants:
• Individual Youth Delegates age 18-34 from around the world and of diverse social, cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds
• Youth organizations, Local and international organizations, Government ministries, Religions groups and organizations, e.t.c.
• Heads of Community Development organizations, Schools, etc. (to provide their experiences on youth participation for community development)

6.0 Registration Fees & and Mode of Payment
(i) Registration Fees (Full)
(a) International Participants –US$ 450
(b) Local Participants(Includes: Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, DR. CONGO and Burundi)- US$ 350 (Tsh. 375,000/=)

(iii) Youth Projects Visitations and Game Reserves (Optional)
If you would like to enjoy with other local youths and see the Nature(Knowing that Arusha is a tourist city with many tourist attractions) then you will be required to pay US$ 200 in additional to conference fee. Arusha National Park is appointed to be visited.
