Recently the final results of the project Sharing Knowledge to Combat
Violence Against Women (VAW) have been launched on the web. Experiences
from different countries, policy guidelines and definitions are among
the highlights of the report, which will assist everyone involved or
interested in combating VAW.

Via an electronic podium, 150 Novib partners from around the world who
deal with VAW participated in e-discussions in four different languages:
English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. By lifting geographical and
language barriers, participants could share their experiences, knowledge
and opinions. The discussions focused on three areas of interest to the
project: women in situations of armed conflict, domestic violence and
trafficking in women.

The project represents a team effort. Novib-Oxfam the Netherlands
initiated the project in January 2001 in order to identify the most
effective strategies to combat VAW and to facilitate the sharing of
knowledge between 150 partner organisations. The International
Information Centre and Archives for the Women's Movement (IIAV) in the
Netherlands coordinated the project on the basis of its expertise in
collecting and sharing information and also developed the website. Isis
International in the Philippines chaired and moderated the e-discussions
throughout the project.

A summary of the online debates and analyses are contained in the report
which is based on daily experiences of local organisations and expert
analyses. The result is a guideline for policymakers, activists, human
rights groups and local and international organizations.

The VAW-report is available at: http://www.novib-vaw.org.
