e-mail message from a Zimbabwean activist
Many Zimbabweans are now aware that the Patron of the Zimbabwe Cricket Union
is Robert Mugabe and that the ZCU is planning to host part of the World Cup in Zimbabwe.
A group called 'zvakwana enough is enough' [email protected]
recently put out the following report on the the first One Day International
cricket match between Zimbabwe and Pakistan.

- "Children were bussed in for the day from a variety of high density schools.
Don't mistake this for a charitable gesture. A cricket official who was
quizzed by a member of Organised Resistance said: "we're bringing them in to
fill up the grounds and to make some noise".
- Members of the public were arrested for blowing whistles and displaying
banners.
-There was more security than there were spectators holding official tickets.
-The overreaching security personnel were extremely aggressive towards the
public, including young children who simply wanted to get autographs from
the Pakistan team.
- Conveniently the ZCU ran a series of development-oriented recruitment
advertisements in the local press yesterday. Just in time to impress the ICC and the Regime.
- Riot police troop carriers were stationed in the Avenues near to the Harare
Sports Club, waiting and watching.
- What is truly sickening is the level of co-operation between the Zimbabwe
Cricket Union, the Zimbabwe Republic Police and a private security firm,
MineTech. To see ZCU officials strutting around, walkie-talkies in hand and with Zanu
Republic Police in tow determined to arrest Zimbabweans carrying banners
that say "Link Arms For Peace", is revolting. Those involved in this
collusion should be ashamed of themselves.
