1. ARTICLES AND REPORTS ON PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY, CORRUPTION, DEMOCRACY WELCOME
Articles and reports on public accountability, corruption, democracy, and related issues are welcome for publication on the IFJ-PA website. The reports may already be published elsewhere, or may be original but verifiable articles that may place the concerned journalists or media houses in danger if published within their national borders. The site is updated periodically.
For further information, contact the site editor at [email protected] or visit www.ifj-pa.org
2. Please note that Entries for the IFJ Journalism for Tolerance Prize will close on 21 January 2003 following a two-week extension of the deadline.
The IFJ Journalism for Tolerance Prize is awarded to journalists for articles and reporting promoting tolerance, combating racism and discrimination. The prize will be awarded to journalists in five regions of the world: Latin America; Central and Western Africa; Eastern and Southern Africa; South Asia; and South East Asia.
In each region three prizes of €1,000 each will be awarded: one each for entries from print/on-line, radio and television.
Colleagues may recall that the Lorenzo Natali Prize - one of the world's leading awards for journalists reporting human rights, democracy and development issues was scooped by Raymond Archer from Ghana. He received 10 000 Euro and a trophy at the ceremony in November 2002. The Natali Prize is also coordinated by the IFJ.

3. JOURNALISM / ADVOCACY RESOURCES
More journalism/advocacy resources are now available on the IFJ-PA site. http://www.ifj-pa.org/docs/advocacy.htm
They include:
* Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc. -a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of investigative reporting.
IRE was formed in 1975 to create a forum in which journalists throughout the world could help each other by sharing story ideas, newsgathering techniques and news sources. For more go to: http://www.ire.org/training/ ; http://www.ire.org/membership/ ; http://www.ire.org/jobs/fellowship.html
* The Institute for the Advancement of Journalism (IAJ)
The IAJ is a not-for-profit media training institute which provides short professional upgrade and refresher courses to working journalists from print and broadcast media on its Parktown, Johannesburg site and on the premises of media organisations. It also provides broader performance consultancy and training services to people working with the media in government departments, NGOs and private companies.
Facilitating African media networking
IAJ is a member of the Southern African Media Trainers Network and meets regularly with regional colleagues. Through scholarship programmes, it makes it possible for African journalists to study at the IAJ and at partner organisations such as the Poynter Institute in Florida, USA. Over the past three years, 48 journalists from 17 different African countries have benefited from these programmes. For more go to
