INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

POLICY AND RESEARCH INTERN NEEDED FOR DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION BASED IN JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA

Actionaid International is a non profit organisation working with poor and excluded people in over 40 countries worldwide to eradicate poverty and injustice locally, nationally, regionally, and globally.

Actionaid International’s Southern Africa Partnership Programme (SAPP) is an eight-country innovative programme whose purpose is to work in solidarity with community groups, NGOs, alliances and movements to strength responses to and accountability on the issues of poverty and HIV and AIDS.

Actionaid is looking for a dynamic, energetic, analytical and highly-organised newly qualified graduate to work with the Southern Africa Partnership Programme policy team.

The intern should be able to:
• Keep abreast of key development on trade related issues leading to Hong Kong Ministerial
• Be prepared to organise and attend meetings in the lead up to Hong Kong Ministerial
· Link up with key civil society organisations working on advocacy and lobby toward Hong Kong Ministerial in Africa and beyond

The successful candidate will have the following skills, abilities and experience:
• Good working knowledge of the development policies and priorities of governments and institutions and the wider sub-regional development context
• A post-graduate degree from a recognised institution
• Proven research experience gained in a public policy, NGO or academic environment
• Good knowledge of relevant research databases, websites, publications
• Strong writing and presentational skills, and the ability to present complex issues clearly
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
• Proven initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm in responding to changing priorities and tight deadlines

This is an internship for a period of 6 months, and while it is not a salaried position, a stipend to cover expenses will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity to obtain solid work experience at a continental and sub-regional, and for personal growth and development in a forward-looking and dynamic organisation.
