WOMEN AT BARCELONA
A working group calling itself "Women at Barcelona", made up of
scientists, activists, service providers, women living with HIV, and others
whose focus is women/HIV/AIDs has been formed to work on a Women's Satellite
Meeting and other women's events at the International AIDS Conference at
Barcelona in July of 2002.
The group is sponsored by the Women's Caucus of the International AIDS
Society (IAWC), the International Community of Women Living with HIV (ICW),
and additional co-sponsors.
Women at previous World AIDS Conferences have defined women's HIV issues in
five broad categories: gender and human rights; prevention; treatment and
health care access; caregiving and support; and advocacy/activism.
The one-day Pre-Conference Women's Satellite Meeting, scheduled for July 6
(given approval by the Conference), will have panel presentations, open mike
discussions, and advocacy strategy sessions, within a human rights
framework. Conference attendees will also be alerted of women-related
activities during the Conference.
